A big propaganda is going rounds that it is better to take the VRS and the connected benefits and leave the company before it is down. The vested interests are making all efforts for maximum publicity for this to influence the workers to take VRS. They propagate the benefits of the VRS.
What are the actual facts? It is something else. If you take VRS you may get some amount on ex-gratia and also the usual pensionary benefits. Compare this with what one will get if he/she retires on superannuation.
If the official is having 50 years of age if he/she takes VRS as per the caculation made by the management he /she will get the ex-gratia. But if he/she continues in service for 10 years more, he/she will get atleast one more promotion, sometimes two. There will be another wage revision. Ten more increments he/she will get. And according to all these, the pension will be calculated. The difference between pension when you take VRS and when you retire on superannuation will be much more.
Women workers are more pressuriesd to take VRS. What happens in their cases? As long she is employed she gets more respect in the house and the society. She has her own income and need not depend upon any body. But once she takes VRS and is not having the job, there is no need for me to tell the difference.
And the last question is if VRS is better then why any body should work at all?
VRS is a trap. It is poison covered by sugar. Repenting later will not do any good to the company or the worker.
Our task is to work better, make the management and government compel to take policy decisions and implementation to the benfit of the people and the company. And we also have to change our mindset and ensure better performance. There is no doubt that the company will improve. How the Steel Authority of India improved after going on loss? How many PSUs have become profitable after sustaing losses? We need not be pessimistinc and take the drastic action to opt for VRS. Think again and take the correct and wise decision for your future and that of the company.

Dear Comrade!
I fully agree with your views in terms of financial benefits; but can anyone guarantee about the future of BSNL as it is? Since there is no controlling force to control the business mafia in the present UPA Govt, I am highly pessimistic to express my views here – Better late than never!! You are not going to get anything better than this option of VRS at this 6000 odd crores of loss (of course, we know it is the handiwork good, loyal CAs of Sibal, Pitroda, Chidambaram and gang). just avail it for your dear ones!
Nobody can guarantee about the future. But the fact is that after we started the Customer Delight Year since May 2011 and strong pressure on the management for various measures to improve the services, the negative trend in the development and finance has changed to positive, even though it is marginal. If this continues, we will be able to post profit by 2012-2013. Strong pressure has to be put on the government to implement and honour its commitment to BSNL on financial viability of BSNL. This wil certainly make a turn about.
Rightly said, Comrade Namboodirijee… But then, you have two evils in front of us and what do you think we should choose; the lesser evil with out any trace of doubt.
Now we have future that is unknown and we can not guarantee it (your words). And on other hand we have VRS which is known to us. Which evil should we choose?
Anyway, the VRS is not the only agenda of the management. The management, in my opinion, will have the succeeding agendas in the future for turn around of the company. Good or Bad, the list of the things that I think or I am afraid wil go on like this:-
(i) Firtsly the VRS. – The hidden agenda behind this is to weaken the workforce by reducing their number so that things can go on without much resistance.
(ii) Secondly, systematic unbundling of the copper(underground gold) and fiber networks to our peers and making some money out of it.
(iii) Thirdly, building towers and making some money out of it. I feel this process is already on.
(iv) Fourthly, systematic outsourcing of the outdoor unit.
(v) Fifthly, renting/leasing/selling out the assets (lands and buildings).
(vi) Heading for IPO
(vii) Finally, steps towards total privatisation and washing off the hands.
All these will follow soon and it might so happen that the order of happenings may change. But for sure, these all are going to happen in my opinion.
Now the million dollar question is “Can we stop it?” Can we find other suitable, sustainable, reliable mechanism to run the BSNL into profits once again and regain the lost glory?
In my humble opinion, it is very difficult as the structure and the style of the present BSNL would not let this happen.
If not Sam Petroda then what is the other best alternative?

Dear namboodiri ji your point of view is correct unless other wise the ITS officer should not be allowed to take decision on behalf of 2.75 lakh employees. and they are working very hard to destabilise the bsnl and make it sick unless it stopped the rising sun will not be seen —–ram
How good to know that you still believe that BSNL will be giving increments in coming days ? You have not mention that how long your DRAMA will take for the next wage negotiation to come in effect. As you took 18 months to agree on the same condition with BSNL Management this time. Will you accept responsibility for financial loss to all those who retired during this period ? Do’nt you feel shame in opposing VRS and backing ITS like a two headed monster ?
There is no doubt that BSNL will be strengthened as can be seen by the fact the negative trend earlier has changed in to positive trend after the Customer Delight Year has started. Regarding the Wage Revision it is one of the best wage revision the BSNL workers have ever got.
