Red Flag over Berlin – 2nd May 1945
2 nd May 1945, the day the Soviet Red Army completely defeated the Nazi Germany Army and hoisted the Red Flag over Berlin. More than 50000 German soldiers were killed in the battle which continued for days. Practically that was the end of the II World War which started by the Nazi Germmany attacking Austria and then other countries of Europe. Italy headed by Fascist Mussolini and Japan with Tojo at its head, together thought that they can bring the world under their control. On the other side was the allied forces of USSR, US and Britain. The war continued in almost all continents, causing loss of more than two crore lives, both soldiers and common people. Lakhs of Indian soldiers in British army were also killed.
The Nazi army captured almost all countries of Europe and moved eastwards to Soviet Union and captured many cities and was on the way to Moscow. The soviets, both military and people, fought inch by inch and at last started pushing the so far undefeated Nazi army back till Berlin and captured Berlin. It was a herculean task which the western countries never thought will be able to do.
Today is the 79th anniversary of that great victory of the Soviet Red Army which saved the world from Nazism and Fascism.
Red Salute to the Soviet Red Army!
