Today, 17th March 2013, there was a meeting organised by the Left Parties at the Constitution Hall premises in Delhi to pay homage to Hugo Chavez, the revolutionary leader and President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venuzuela, who died recently. The hall was full with a large number of persons attending.
The Meeting was presided by Com. Prakash Karat, General Secretary of CPI(M).Coms. A.B.Burdhan(CPI), Sitaram Yechury (CPI(M), Devarajan (Forward Block), Abini Roy (RSP) and other leaders addressed. The speakers mentioned about Chavez and the revolutionary change that he made in Venezuela, nationalising the US companies, utilising the oil resources to improve the condition of the people, uniting the Latin American countries against Imperialist US and the 20th Century Socialism he advanced. The Venezulean Ambassador to India thanked the organisers for the meeting and conveyed the determination of the people of Venezuela to continue in the path shown by Chavez.
The President announced the decision of the house to form a committee including political parties and other interested individuals in support of Venezuela and for better co-ordination.
