2.25 lakh BSNL employees will create History through their Two Days Strike on 21-22 April 2015 for safe guarding the interests of BSNL and for its Revival. The Joint Forum / Forum of BSNL Unions / Associations since the formation of BSNL has been making all out efforts to fight the anti-PSU policy of the government – both NDA and UPA – and have gone on many strikes against VRS, Disinvestment, Unbundling and so on and has been generally successful in stopping them.

This time, the strike is for the Revival of BSNL. It is a “Do or Die” battle, since BSNL is already in red with loss for five years since 2010. The government has to change its anti-PSU policy. It has to honour and implement its own assurances to BSNL that the financial viability of the company will be ensured through payment of ADC, liberal subsidy from USO Fund and also by reimbursement of licence fee. These are all withdrawn for many years.

The 20 Point Strike demands are well known to the workers. It is intended to revive BSNL. BSNL is our bread and butter. It is to be saved.

Towards Two Days Strike on 21-22 April 2015. 100% participation will show the government and the management that the workers will not tolerate any non-sense. We will have to continue the struggles even after the strike.

Bill, FDI in Insurance, strike

All India Insurance Employees Association (AIIEA) has called upon the LIC employees to go on strike on 9th March 2015, protesting against the passing of the Insurance Amendment Act in the Lok Sabha, increasing the FDI from 26% to 49%. The Insurance employees have been strongly opposing the bill and had warned the government that they will go on strike if the bill is passed.

In passing the bill, the Congress party played a dirty game. It absented itself from voting on the opposition moved resolution opposing the bill. This helped the government to easily pass the bill.

We fully support the strike of the LIC employees!

Gl. Insurance workers, strike

The General Insurance Employees All India Association has stated that the more than 75,000 employees in the sector will go on strike if the Central Government bring the Insurance Bill in the Parliament.

The General Insurance Employees’ All India Association comprises four public sector general insurance companies — National Insurance Company, New India Assurance Company, Oriental Insurance Company and United India Insurance.

The Bill is being brought to increase the FDI in the sector from 26 to 49%, which the employees are opposing vehemently. The move is only to help the corporates both Indian and foreign.

Our solid support and solidarity to the struggle.

AAI Unions on struggle path – Declares strike against privatisation of air-ports.

AAI, Airport privatisation, strike

The proposal for privatisation of Kolkatta,Chennai, Jaipur and Ahmedabad airports have been strongly opposed by the Airport Authority Employees Union and notice has been issued stating that the employees will go on strike, if the government does not go back from the privatisation move.

Already the most profitable airports in the country, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are already privatised. The next profitable airports are Chennai and Kolkata. Both these airports have been modernised by he Airport Authority of India recently, spending crores of rupees. Now the government is proposing to hand over the same to privatse companies. Other profitable airports are also proposed to be privatised, keeping only the loss making airports to the PSU, AAI.

We strongly oppose the privatisation move and extend support and solidarity to the AAI employees in the just struggle.

JAC Called for talks on strike issues by the BSNL Management.

JAC, strike, Talks

The BSNL Management wanted to divide the Unions which have given Strike Notice for 27 November 2014, by inviting only the recognised unions, viz. BSNLEU and NFTE for talks.

But the strong stand taken by the BSNLEU and NFTE that they will not attend the talks if they alone are invited has achieved results. Now the BSNL Management has invited the JAC for talks on 25th November at 17.00 hours.

The BSNL Management, if it wants to avoid a confrontation, should discuss the issues with a positive attitude, settle the demands and avoid the strike. Will the BSNL management adopt a positive attitude ?

Massive Protests and Strikes in Italy

Italy, strike

Friday was a day of anti-government protests and strikes across Italy. While metalworkers’ FIOM Union staged a walkout in northern Italy, the base union COBAS called a 24-hour nationwide public transport industrial action, causing severe disruption in many Italian cities.

Smaller unions representing public sector researchers and private firm workers were also present in the strikes and demonstrations. And all of them were angry at the government’s labor reforms and harsh budget measures. Violence has been recorded in Padua and Milan. Several policemen were injured when a group of protesters tried to climb the Colosseum in Rome. While trains and buses have stopped running and planes have idled on tarmacs and much of Italy slipped into a state of temporary paralysis, thousands of students have gathered in central Rome to protest against the planned education reform. Students are accusing the government of wanting to destroy public free education, turning schools into factories for the job market. The Rome demonstration also featured people demanding greater social housing. Migrants and refugees were also angry about the government as well as the European Union’s migration policies which they described as draconian. (Courtesy: Ganashakti)
