China Lifting more than 800 Million people out of poverty, a great story in human history – World Bank

China, Poverty

The following report of the World Bank shows that 90 crore poor people in China have been lifted out of poverty. China was called the country with the maximum poor people. After the Communist Party took over the country, great changes have been made. Removal of poverty as reported by the World bank, is a great great achievement. The PTI report from Washington is given below:

PTI
Washington, Oct 12: China lifting more than 800 million people out of poverty since the start of its economic reform is a “great story in human history”, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said today, underlining that there is “lessons to be learned” from this Chinese experience.

“This is one of the great stories in human history, frankly,” Kim told reporters at the start of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Starting in 1990 with the evolution of the Chinese economic system and its embrace of the global market China has lifted over 800 million out of poverty, he said.

“So, most of the progress that’s been made in going from 40 per cent of the world living in extreme poverty to now less than 10 per cent…most of that progress happened in China.

So, we’re always looking for the lessons from that experience and it continues,” Kim said in response to a question.

The World Bank, he said, has been working very closely with China on things like ensuring that some of the more distant regions in China are also getting access to social services and healthcare.

“It is working right now on a pilot project on healthcare system. If it works out it could lead to a major change in the healthcare system that would help to improve outcomes overall,” he said.

“So, this effort has been historic. I think we’re still trying to understand exactly how 800 million people were lifted out of poverty, but it was one of the great successes,” Kim said.

Prime Minister praises Kerala for full literacy – But what about other states?

BJP Government, literacy, Poverty

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to Kerala, has congratulated the Kerala people for the full literacy of the state. Well and good and thanks for the same.

But people want to know what action, the BJP governments are taking to spread literacy in its own states? If the reports are correct, many of these states are having more than 30-40% illiteracy.

The conclusion is clear. The BJP governments at the centre as well as states are not serious about improving literacy. They only want a facial makeup. They very well know that the people, the workers, the Dalits, the under-privileged – their voices will become stronger and fights will become mightier, which the government don’t want.

A great movement for literacy in the entire country is the need of the hour to empower the weaker sections of the society. The workers, students, teachers, employees, educationalists – all have got the responsibility in this task, in addition to the Government.

India among five nations which account for half of world’s poor

India tops, Poverty

India is one of the five countries, India, Brazil, China, Mexico and Indonesia, which accounts for half of the world’s poor. India  tops the list. This is as per the report of the International Food Policy Research Institute. The report also states that India has got 47.9% of the stunted children in the world, the maximum of any country.

The rules of the country, both UPA and NDA  or Congress and BJP should hang their heads in shame that they could not remove poverty in the country. While the crorepatis and millionaires have been increasing on the one hand, the poorest were also increasing.

The neo-liberal policies being adopted by the successive governments have made the situation worse.  The governments, even after sixty 67 years of freedom can not remove poverty have no right to continue.

These rulers have never known poverty and hunger. Had they experienced poverty and hunger, they would have taken some action, at least. Shame on them!

27 Crore Indian still in extreme poverty – UN Report

Poverty

Even after 67 years of Independence, India has 27 crores of people living in extreme poverty ass per a United Nations Report. The Millennium Development Goals Programme envisaged to eliminate property by December 2014, but this could not be achieved. India accepted the UNO’s MDG in 2000 with an aim to free the crores of people under extreme poverty, hunger, illiteracy and poor health. Indian rulers had utterly failed in implementing the programme. While the rich has flourished, the condition of the poor remained the same, despite loud declarations.

It is a shame on both the UPA and NDA governments. The people has to rise and remove these governments to save the country.
