The Red Army of China or the People’s Liberation Army was founded on 1st August 1927. It was formed at the time of an uprising in the army of Kuomintang. The PLA was very small with only about 1,000 at the time of formation, but grew in numbers when peasants in hundreds joined due to its peasant friendly approach and distribution of land to the peasants. It used guerrilla tactics effectively.

In the Long March, war and overthrow of the Kuomintang Chiang-Kai-Shaik and Chinese Revolution, under the leadership of Mao-Tse-Tung, Zhou-en-Lai and others, the Red Army played an important role.

The Red Army is one of the biggest and mighty army in the world at present.
