TRAI recommends less licence fee for telecom operators

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended to the government to reduce the licence fee of telecom operators from 8% to 6%.

The private telecom operators have been demanding the government to reduce the licence fee.

TRAI has recommended 8% of licence fee on Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) for internet service providers (ISPs), where all types of revenue from Internet services is calculated minus pass through charges and taxes.

At present the Licence Fee on Internet services is 6%. The decision is to be taken by the Department of Telecom / Telecom Commission on the suggestions of the TRAI.
