Coal India Management ready for discussion with Unions

The Coal India Limited management has stated that they are ready to talk with the unions on the issues of Strike given notice of by the unions. The Unions in CIL has jointly given notice for strike from 6th January 2015.

The charter of demands include stopping or withdrawing “process of denationalisation of coal sector” and stopping “disinvestment, restructuring of CIL” (Coal India), among others. The demands also include extending the National Coal Wage Agreement (NCWA) wages and other benefits to existing and prospective captive coal workers and lifting the ban on general recruitment. Regularising contract workers engaged in mining jobs in underground as well as open cast mines is another demand.

Earlier, the proposed strike on November 24 by CIL employee unions was deferred after a meeting between the Coal Ministry officials and trade unions.

The Government had declared 10% immediate disinvestment in Coal India Ltd. and was proceeding in the matter. All the unions in the CIL had issued notice for strike against disinvestment in this month itself. The government is reported to have changed its decision in view of the proposed strike. However, the government wants more dividend from the PSU to make up the financial deficit.
We congratulate the Coal India Workers for their success in stopping the Disinvestment for the present.

New Delhi, Aug 19 All trade unions of Coal India

have decided to go on a three day strike from September 23,

saying the government and the company have not paid heed to

the directions given by Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal.

An earlier notice for a 3-day strike beginning September

19, given by CITU-led All India Coal Workers’ Federation

(AICWF) will now be withdrawn, the unions said in a joint

notice for the strike. The unions had held a meeting yesterday

in Ranchi on the issue.

“After detailed deliberations, representatives of five

central trade unions resolve to serve strike notice for three

days with effect from September 23 to 25,” the trade unions

said in the notice to Coal Secretary and Coal India Chairman.

The five central trade unions operating in Coal India and

its subsidiaries are Indian National Trade Union Congress

(INTUC), All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Bharatiya

Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) and Centre for

Indian Trade Unions (CITU). They operate either directly or

through their affiliates.

A 10 per cent disinvestment in Coal India and its proposed

restructuring are among the major issues against which the

trade unions are threatening to go on strike.
