Ravi Shankar Prasad, Communications Minister stated in Parliament that in view of the heavy rains in Chennai, BSNL will provide free calls for one week and no lines will be disconnected.
BSNL is once again in the forefront to support the people in distress. BSNL comrades are also in the front for relief operations.

Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, in a parliament reply has stated that there is no proposal to disinvest BSNL. He also stated that BSNL is improving its financial position. This is the victory of the BSNL employees. Their continuous struggle against disinvestment and privatisation and for the revival of BSNL is bearing fruits. Congratulations to the BSNL workers and their unions and Forum.
However, we have to be ever vigilant. The government which pursues the neo-liberal policy aggressively may be waiting for a suitable time to re-start its disinvestment line for BSNL. Eternal vigilance is required.

“Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is back on track for recovery with Rs 672-crore operating profit in 2014-15, and is likely to report the first net profit in the last nine years within 2018, communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told HT.
Administrative expenses are also on the decline in 2014-15.
“BSNL was a Rs 10,000-crore profit-making unit when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister and when we took charge, it was making a loss of Rs 8,000 crore… something went wrong, we will correct it in next three years,” Prasad said.
The company has registered an impressive growth in mobile connections in recent months — It went up from 900,000 in May this year to 1.6 million in July. It has also adopted mobile number portability (MNP) from July 2015, and has since then added 1,57,564 subscribers.

“We are confident of achieving the target of becoming cash positive by 2018 and all 225,000 employees are committed to achieving this,” BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava said.
Shrivastava, who spoke to union leaders on Wednesday, urged them to participate in the revival of the company.
BSNL will also form a separate infrastructure company for tower business with 64,500 towers, and is looking to earn Rs 2,200-crore revenue in the next 2-4 year.
Additionally, it also plans to monetise its land assets. “It may generate about Rs 2,500 crore revenue for BSNL,” Shrivastava said.
The telecom major also plans to enhance its revenue from Wi-Fi services. The company has installed 450 hotspots in 24 tourists destinations. Besides, it plans to allow subscribers of other telcos to use the Wi-Fi, with initial 10-15 minutes of free connectivity and then making it chargeable.

In Banks, LIC etc. five year wage revision has started / agreement reached. The DPE has agreed to issue instructions for forming of III Pension Revision Committee for executives of the PSUs.

Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has stated that in order to improve the quality of telecom services, mobile towers will be erected on buildings including Parliament. He stated that one has already been erected on the Parliament Annex building. According to him the radiation issue is a myth.
He also stated that BSNL has installed over 25,000 BTS over the last one year and 6,000 more are being erected, which will improve BSNL services. (Source: Business Line 26-11-2015)

At last, as per reports, DOT has released the Rs. 1,250 crore USOF subsidy allotted for BSNL for the year 2012-13. This is in lieu of ADC, which was stopped earlier. Although the amount was allotted by the USOF two years back, it was not paid to BSNL on flimsy grounds.
Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations has been continuously demanding release of the same, since BSNL in big financial problem. At last, now the same has been released. BSNL can utilise the same for procurement of equipment.

Orders have been issued by BSNL Kerala Circle revoking the suspension of all the union office-bearers and activists of BSNLEU and SNEA, who were put under suspension in connection with the agitation for the demands of the Casual and Contract labours as also against the corrupt practices of the then CGM MSS Rao. The orders are with immediate effect. BSNLEU, SNEA and BSNLCCWF have been pursuing the case continuously.

According to Shri Anupam Shrivastava, CMD, BSNL, agreement has been reached between BSNL and Face-Book to create and operate 100 WiFi spots in rural areas a part of digital penetration in the country. The roll-out will start by December 2015.
It is expected that this programme, when implemented, will help the rural areas as also business prospects of BSNL.

19 October, 2015:Massive Dharna demanding PLI (Bonus). Massive dharnas were organized in Circes / SSAs demanding payment of Productivity Linked Incentive (PLI) / Bonus to the BSNL employees and executives. The programme was organized as per the call of the Forum of BSNL Unions & Associations. At the Corporate Office premises, New Delhi, the dharna was participated by more than 500 employees. In addition from NTR and Corporate Office, comrades came in large numbers from Haryana and UP (West). The dharna was inaugurated by Com. V.A.N. Namboodiri, Patron, BSNLEU and was addressed by General Secretaries and Circle Secretaries of Unions and Associations. Com. Balbir Singh, President, BSNLEU, Com. K.G. Jayaraj, General Secretary, AIBDPA, Com. Islam Ahmed, President, NFTE, Com. Prahlad Rai, General Secretary, AIBSNLEA, Com. Aravind Dahiya, Joint Secretary, SNEA(I), Com. The Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations have demanded that Adhoc Bonus be paid immediately to the BSNL employees, since the discussion on the PLI (Productivity Linked Incentive) is still not completed. The Navaratri has already started and Vijaya Dashami, Puja is on 22-23 October 2015. There is no further time to discuss and decide. It is therefore important that Adhoc Bonus be paid immediately.
The Bonus or PLI should be paid to the casual and contract workers also, who are the lowest paid in BSNL.
