World over, 12th May is celebrated as the International Nurses Day, in memory of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, who was born on 12th May 1820.
Nursing was not considered a respectable job even about hundred years back and respectable girls were discouraged from taking the job. Then think about a girl born in high and rich family taking the job of nursing the patients! Florence Nightingale took the courage and made basis for the nursing about two centuries back.
India, specially Kerala and North East, can take credit all over the world for the large number of Nurses (males and female) serving in difficult situations including in military and disturbed areas. Their sacrifice, courage and sufferings are widely appreciated.
Our grateful salute and thanks to all the nursing fraternity on the International Nurses Day!
