Rich becomes richer, Poor poorer! This is the Economic Growth!

Even while the ruling combine at the Centre claims of economic growth after persuing neo-liberal policies since 1991, the result is that the disparity between the rich and poor widened many-fold.

According to the data collected by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO),the average spend of the richest group in urban areas was 12 times that of the poorest group in 2000; In 2012, it has increased to 15 fold. In rural areas, the disparity increased from 7 to 10 times in these 12 years.

The new economic policy has resulted in the GDP Growth for most of this period; but has not tickled down to the neediest. Rather is benefiting the already affluent sector more. The Reliances, Tatas and other richest have flourished and the poor perished or cornered

Casual/ Contract workers in Hazaribag on struggle

Tags

,

The casual and contract workers of Hazaribag, numbering about 300 are on strike for the last one week demanding payment of wages for the last five months since March 2013.Despite several discussions, the BSNL management has not implemented the payment of minimum wage, social security measures like ESI, EPF etc.
BSNL management should become sensitive to the condition of the poor workers and settle the issues urgently. It is a shame that a PSU like BSNL is exploiting the toiling workers.
We demand the BSNL Corporate Office as also the Circle administration to immediately intervene and ensure that the workers are paid the arrears of wages and all other claims are settled with out further delay.

HAVANA (Reuters) – Cuban President Raul Castro assured his people on Friday that a transfer of power to younger generations had begun, in a televised address marking the 60th anniversary of the start of the Cuban revolution.
Castro spoke in the city of Santiago in eastern Cuba, where on July 26, 1953, the young Castro and a group of rebels, led by his brother Fidel, attacked the Moncada military barracks in a failed assault that sparked the movement that eventually toppled the U.S.-backed government of dictator Fulgencio Batista on January 1, 1959.

Raul, now 82, who took over as president from his brother in 2008, spoke in front of the Moncada to 11,000 spectators, while a frail Fidel, who turns 87 next month, remained out of sight in Havana.

More Fraud by the rich – Dy. Governor RBI

It is a well known fact that the culprits behind the Non-Performing Assets (NPA) ie. the loans to be returned, are the rich. Thousands of crores of loans are not paid by the corporate houses to the banks which are treated as NPA and never recovered. But in the case of small loans taken by the ordinary people, the banks are very harsh and take all aggressive measures to recover the money.

It is the same with the frauds on banks. During the last 10 years, 1,76,547 frauds have been reported in the banks according to K.C.Chakraborty, Dy. Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Only 61 fraud cases involved a whopping amount of Rs. 13,000 crore. And who are the culprits? They are all the rich and affluent, according to the Dy. Governor. These are mainly wrong sanctions at the highest level of banks , meaning that the top officers in the banks are also involved.

We are happy that a top authority himself has opened the lid open on the frauds being committed by those in power with the rich.

The Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has stayed the orders of DOT slapping a penalty of Rs. 650 crores for manipulating STD/ISD calls in to local calls and thus cheating the government in paying the taxes. This relates to the period of 2002-03, when Bharti Airtel provided a service called Subscriber Local Dialling facilitating this manipulation.

In many earlier cases of penalty also the private companies avoided payment by going to TRAI, TDSAT and also courts and getting relaxation or full favourable judgement.
