Former CJ Sadasivam Appointed as Kerala Governer.

Former Chief Justice of Supreme Court, P.Sadasivam, has been appointed as Kerala Governor, by the President of India on the basis of the decision of the government.
Many eminent personalities have questioned the move of appointing a former CJ of Supreme Court to the post of Governor of a state. So far no CJ has been posted as Governor, since it has many implocations.
Our opinion is that this controversial move could have been avoided. But of course Modi Government may have its own compulsions.

WFTU Call to observe 3 October , International Action Day

The World Federation of Trade Unions has called upon the world working class to observe the International Action Day on 3 October 2014 focussing on the ‘UNEMPLOMENT’ issue which is increasing world over and is threatening the future of the youth.
BSNLEU, AIBDPA and BSNLCCWF have also endorsed the call and requested their members to fully  participate/organise the programme in a very successful way.
We have to make the programme a big success.

Civil Wing in BSNL being demolished?

In its panic to do something to somehow bring financial viability to BSNL, the management is moving in the wrong direction. The CGM Kerala has issued orders transferring all the Civil Wing staff to the local SSAs. There was no discussion with the recognised unions before issuing such an order.
Earlier, there was a move to wind up Civil Wing, but on the strong protest of BSNLEU, the same was dropped. Now without any discussion or agreement, this contentious order is issued. We demand the management to cancel the order and discuss the same with the unions.

National Council of BSNL meets on 25 September 2014.

The National Council was due in August. After pressure from BSNLEU the new date has been announced as 25 September 2014. The Management well knew that on that date there will be March to CGM Offices by the casual contract workers as per the call of the BSNLCCWF.
Anyhow, we don’t want to delay the National Council, which is already late.
As such, both will take place on the same date. We will utilise the opportunity to raise the issue of the casual and contract workers  in the NC.

BSNL MTNL Merger move on the govt. agenda

It is reported that the DOT has made a presentation to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi about its proposal for merger of BSNL and MTNL by July 2015. It will finalise the plan by March 2015 and discuss the same with unions in June 2015. The proposal includes sale/lease of land assets, synergy etc.

The Forum of BSNL Unions/ Associations had already written to Communications Minister, DOT, CMD etc. strongly protesting merger. But so far none of them could find time to reply or meet the unions, but are continuing with their plans. This is unacceptable and is strongly protested. Govt. and BSNL Management should urgently discuss the issue with the Forum/Unions/Associations.
