Casual Contract Labour Demands – Meeting by Parliament Standing Committee on Labour

The Parliament Standing Committee on Labour has fixed a meeting on 29 September and invited BSNLCCWF to attend the same. BSNLCCWF had given detailed memorandum on the non-implementation of minimum wage, EPF, ESI etc and also non- regularisation. Already evidence in detail has been submitted by the Federation.

There should be no delay in settling Pension cases – DOT

The sustained efforts of AIBDPA for quick settlement of pension cases are having results. We have been meeting the DOT officers for speedy disposal. Now DOT had a meeting with BSNL officers and have given strict instructions to settle the pension and related matters by the date of superannuation itself. BSNL has also issued necessary orders. Memorial for Subramania Bharathi in Varanasi

A proposal has been mooted to have a memorial to Social Reformer and Tamil Poet Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiyar in Varanasi, where he lived during his studies.
T.Nadu government has constructed a memorial at Tutucorin, his birthplace, for this great freedom fighter.

Low cost Airlines for North-East

The Central government is on the move to introduce low cost airlines with fixed and rotary wing aircraft in the North East states for better transport. Now people have to go by road or pay heavy air fare. The fixed/rotary wing aircrafts are used in Nepal in a big way and is effective.
The NE people also has a right for better transport. This should be implemented early.

What? Closing Down of BSNL, MTNL?

A very disturbing news have come in Economic Times. It has reported that Cabinet Secretary Ajit Singh has called for a meeting of top officers to discuss about the closing down of certain big loss making PSUs including BSNL and MTNL.
According to the report the proposal is  for closure of 10 loss making companies like BSNL, MTNL, Air India, Hindustan Fertilisers, Hindustan Photo Films etc. the total loss of which comes in 2012-13 is Rs.24,500 crore.
If the report is correct, the cat is out of the bag. Earlier the UPA Government and the present NDA governments were shouting on tree top about their proposals for Revival of BSNL and MTNL. Everybody knew the assurances are hollow. If the above report is correct, then unions in BSNL and MTNL has to urgently meet and plan our resistance and no-barred struggles.

Saiffudin Choudhari passed away

Saifuddin Choudhari ex-M.P. and former CPI(M) leader passed away today. He was  62 and was ailing for some time. He was three time M.P. and was a prominent parliamentarian.Our homage to the departed leader. Condolences to the bereaved family.

Hunger Strike in T.Nadu for Reinstatement of contract workers.

Com. Vinod, Circle Secretary BSNLCCWF, Com.Murugaiah and Com.Babu Radhakrishnan, leaders of BSNLEU and BSNLCCWF are on Hunger Strike in front of CGM office T.Nadu Circle demanding immediate reinstatement of the retrenched contract workers in Vellore. Com.S.Chellappa, Circle Secretary, BSNLEU is leading the struggle. A large number of workers are sitting in Dharna. A strike by contract workers is being organised tomorrow, 16 September and a massive dharna will be organised with participation  of about two thousand workers of both BSNLEU & BSNLCCWF.
Com.V.A.N.Namboodiri, President of both BSNLEU and BSNLCCWF met CMD A.N.Rai today and demanded immediate intervention and direction to the CGM T.Nadu to discuss and settle the issue by taking the retreched workers back.

J and K Relief – Letter given to CMD BSNL

Com. V. A. N. Namboodiri, Convener, Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations met Shri A.N.Rai, CMD BSNL today and handed over the letter conveying the decision of the Forum for donation of one day basic pay for J and K  Relief by deducting the same from the salary of September payable in October.
It was also requested that one month pay advance be paid to the affected officials in J and K.

National Convention of Workers

The National Convention of Workers against anti-worker labour reforms, disinvestment of PSUs, FDI etc under the auspices of 11 Central Trade Unions was held at New Delhi, today, 15 September 2014. The Convention was attended by delegates from the Central Trade Unions, independent federations etc. Com.V.A.N.Namboodiri, President, P.Abhimanyu GS and Swapan Chakraborty AGS attended from BSNLEU.
The Convention was presided by nominees of the CTUs including Com.A.K.Padmanabhan (CITU) Shiv Gopal Mishra (HMS), B.N.Rai(BMS) etc. Coms.Tapan Sen (CITU), Dr.Sanjeeva Reddy(INTUC), Gurudas Dasgupta (AITUC), Vrijesh  Upadhyaya (BMS) and other leaders addressed.
All the speakers opposed the anti-worker policies of the govt. as also the amendment to the labour laws taking away the rights of workers
The house  unanimously adopted a Resolution for organising state/district level conventions in October- November and National Protest Day on 5 December 2014.
All comrades are requested to implement the same effectively.

Benoy Konar passed away

Com. Benoy Konar, senior leader of CPI(M) passed away on 14 September. He was 84. Com. Konar was ailing for some time.
He was a militant leader of the agricultural workers / peasant movement and was a three time MLA. He is the brother of veteran leader Com.Hare Krishna Konar.
