Support and solidarity to Coal Workers Strike.

Coal workers strike

Five lakh coal workers are going on strike for 5 days from tomorrow, 6th January 2015, against the government decision to de-nationalisation of Coal sector and grant of coal block allotment to the private sector. The Coal sector unions have boycotted the talks called by the government, since the latter is going with the privatisation programme. An Ordinance which  inter alia moves for privatisation/disinvestment is already issued. This big rofit making sector is going to be gifted to the corporates. It can not be allowed.

This is not a fight of the coal workers and their unions alone. It is a fight of the entire working class in the country against the neo-liberalisation, which brings more and more misery to the workers and common people.

The Central Trade Unions have called upon all the unions/associations to extend support and solidarity to the striking workers by holding demonstrations and sending FAX messages to the Prime Minister and Coal Minister demanding immediate withdrawal of the Ordinance and supporting the Coal Workers Strike.

The BSNL workers fully support the coal workers struggle and extend solidarity and support!

Govt. approves Ordinance for 49% FDI in Insurance

Coal, Insurance, ordinance

As we stated earlier, the government is bent upon pushing the so called ‘reforms’ in the Insurance sector by increasing the FDI from 26% to 49%. This is being much pressed by the MNCs and corporates for a long time. Now they have got a government who are prepared to satisfy them. And lo! US President is also visiting India at the time of Republic Day.

Though the Insurance Amendment Bill could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha, the NDA government is not bothered. Now the cabinet has approved the ordinance to be issued in lieu of passing the Act. Corporates, MNCs and president Obama will be very happy.

Cabinet has also adopted ordinance on the Coal block allotment which was also pending.

We strongly oppose both the ordinances, which are only in the interests of the corporates and big business.

DOT fails to get stay on TDSAT decision on penalty issue to private telecom operators

3G Roaming, SC

The Supreme court on 18th December denied stay on the decision of the TDSAT to cancel the penalty of Rs. 1,200 crore imposed on the private telecom operators Airtel, Vodafone and Idea for illegally providing 3G services in the circles, where they did not get the spectrum through auction. The service was provided by them through agreements with other private companies. This was opposed by DOT as illegal and imposed the penalty. But the TDSAT, on appeal gave the decision to allow the roaming. It was against this decision that DOT filed the appeal in the Supreme Court.

The present decision is subject to the final judgment of the Supreme Court which is yet to be delivered.

It is alleged that DOT /BSNL who have much to lose in the TDSAT decision, have not effectively dealt with the case.

A copy of the Memorandum proposed to be submitted to the Prime Minister is enclosed herewith. All efforts are to be made to collect maximum signatures sufficiently early so that the same can be submitted to the Prime Minister on the day of the Parliament March on 25th February 2015.

I hope you will consider and take a favourable decision in the matter and convey to us early.

With Warm greetings,

Yours Fraternally,

AAP Demands dismissal of Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for favouring Reliance Jio

Communications minister, Reliance Jio

The following report in the Financial Express indicates how even the Communication Minister himself is favouring the private telecom companies. Whether it was Dayanidhi Maran, A.Raja or now Ravi Shankar Prasad, all are there to support the private telecom companies. granting undue favours. BSNL is the orphan. Even the Minister of Communications does not take any action to revive it, except declaring that “I will not allow BSNL and MTNL to die”. See the fraction of the report in the Financial Express below:

“Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today demanded dismissal of Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad alleging a conflict of interest that has prevented him from issuing a notice to Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio on 4G issue, a charge vehemently denied by Prasad saying he never gave advice or appeared for the company.

AAP leader and advocate Prashant Bhushan also alleged that Manish Tewari, who was a Union Minister in the previous UPA government, had a retainership contract with Reliance Industries.”  (Report from Financial Express)
