PJ Thomas Defiant – Refuses to resign despite SC remarks

Central Vigilance Commissioner, PJ Thomas

Despite the struck down the appointment of CVC by the apex court yesterday, 3rd March 2011, P.J.Thomas has defiantly refused to resign from the post. It is reported that he may appeal against the court verdict. Things are moving in expected way.

However, the government is in a very unenviable position with debacle one after another. Its integrity, decisions, policy – everything is questioned with sufficient reason. The Prime Minister himself is in the dock now. Our international repute has also gone down.

Why Government shy away from acting against Black Money?

corruption, India black money

In addition to the inaction on the part of Government to book the corrupt politicians and top officers, it is also going slow on action against those powerful people who have thousands of crore of black money stashed in the foreign banks. The government is not denying that it has got information about many such cases, but refuses to divulge the names stating that under agreement with the foreign governments, these names could not be disclosed. Nobody is going to believe these fragile pleas. The Supreme Cour itself has criticised the Government in this matter.

Take the case of Hasan Ali Khan, the race horses broker who has stashed lakhs of crore of black money in foreign banks. The Income Tax Department is stated to have issued a notice for more than Rs. 70,000 crore as tax against him. But yet, the Government has neither taken any action against him for tax evasion, putting black money in foreign banks or for the black money itself. He has not been even questioned so far, leave alone arresting him.The Supreme Court has asked rightly ” What the hell is going on?”

The people of the country are echoing the same question, ” What the hell is going on?” Is the government worried that their own people will be exposed if a serious enquiry is conducted and action taken? There is no other reason why they are dilly-dallying in the matter.

SC strikes down PJ Thomas’s Appointment as CVC – UPA Govt. in docks again

The UPA government is again in the docks. The Supreme Court has struck down the appointment of P.J.Thomas as Central Vigilance Commissioner. The SC slammed the Prime Minister’s Panel which decided the appointment. The Apex court said that the PM’s Committee ignored Integrity.

The opposition parties demand that the Prime Minister should make a statement in the Parliament.

The credibility and integrity of the UPA II government is at the lowest. Has the government any answer?

It is reported in the press, that Ms. Kanimozhi, Member of Parliament and daughter of Karunanidhi may be questioned by CBI in connection with the 2G scam. She is having substantial shares in Kalaignar TV which is reported to have received kick back by one of the 2G licencee. But the DMK has denied that any kick back stating that it was a loan and the same has been returned. It is interesting that it was returned only recently after the 2G scam became a big issue.

2G Spectrum – Minister Raja indicted by CAG

11 Thursday Nov 2010

According to the final report given by CAG Vinod Rai to the Government on 10th November 2010, the estimated loss to the government comes to Rs. 176-70 lakh crore. CMG also mentioned that 85 ineligible companies were allocated spectrum.

This is one of the biggest scams the country has ever seen. It is now followed by CWG and Adarsh scams.

Opposition parties have demanded Joint Parliamentary Committee enquiry in the matter. They have also demanded sacking of Minister Raja. Will the Government continue protecting corrupted leaders? It will certainly be at its peril.

Corruption Unlimited- Action Limited

corruption, India corruption

The sacking of Ashok Chawan from the Chief Ministership and Suresh Kalmadi from the Secretaryship  of the Congress Parliamentary Party is nothing but an eyewash. Too little and too late. Nobody is convinced about the belated and nominal action. So many big fish are involved both in the CWG and Adarsh flat scams who have not been touched. The common man  can not be fooled. The UPA government is making corruption institutionalised.
