DOT supports Raja. Says he was following existing policy!

The UPA II Government is supporting former Minister Raja stating that the latter was only following the past policy of the NDA government. In its presentation before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), the DOT officers has virtually justified the action of Raja stating that the allotment of spectrum in 2008 was done as per the past policy.
Raja is chargesheeted and is in custody in Tihar Jail. The CAG had stated that there has been a loss of 1.76 lakh crore to the government due to the 2008 spectrum allotment on the basis of fist come first served. CBI has estimated Rs. 30,000 loss.
It seems that the Central Government is continuing its position as explained by the present telecom Minister Kapil Sibal that there is ‘zero loss’ in the allotement of spectrum. The Government will naturally want to hush up the scam gradually and this is a clear indication.

UPA II Government to the rescue of the private telcos.

17 Friday Jun 2011

The DOT has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI ) to reconsider its recommendations to cancel the licenses of those companies who did not fulfil the licence obligations like rolling out the network etc. TRAI had earlier recommended cancellation of 69 licences of 5 copmanies for failure to roll out the net work.

The UPA II government has come to the rescue of the private operators as always. The cancellation of licences would have been a lesson to the private operators for violating the licence conditions. But NO! The government is fully on the side of the private companies even if they violate the lawas and rules blatantly. Hence this out of way support to them.

UPA II Government involved in one more scam – now it is oil exploration

13 Monday Jun 2011

It seems that there is no Ministry of the UPA II government, which is free from scam of thousands of crores of rupees. The latest is in the oil exploration. The CAG has slammed the Government favouring the private companies – Reliance Industries owned by Mukesh Ambani and Cairn India Limited.
As per reports published in the news media today, the CAG has pulled up the Oil Ministry for allowing the Reliance Industries Ltd. to violate the terms of contract with government in the case of Andhra offshore fields. In the same way it also favoured the Cairn India Limited in its operation in Rajasthan’s Barmer District.
These undue favours to the private sector companies have not only resulted in loss of thousands of crores of rupees to the nation, but have also discriminated against the public sector companies.
Which is the next minitry going to be under lens of either the CAG or the Supreme Court?

From the day the elections results have come out with big victory for the Trinamool Congress, its goons along with Maoists have been attacking the supporters and workers of the Left Parties and their trade unions. Many trade union offices have been ransacked and captured by the Trinamool goondas and workers beaten up. Dozens of cadres of Left parties have been murdered. People who support the Left are threatened and compelled to leave their homes.
The attack has started on the BSNLEU offices also. The workers are resisting these onslaughts. The entire democratic movements have to strongly oppose the goonda tactics of Trinamool and Maoist atrocities and demand stringent actions to stop the same.

Midnight arrest at Ramlila grounds – Severe critisism by Supreme Court

India corruption

In addition to the strong protests of the political parties, democratic movements, intellectuals, social activists etc. , the Supreme Court also made stringent remarks on the midnight attack of the police on the people in the Ramlila grounds. It asked the government to explain its behaviour in the matter.

The Prime Minister was compelled to state openly that the incident was unfortunate. But his justification that it was inevitable will not be accepted by any body. The Prime Minister who is supposed to defend the rights of the people, should have condemned the attack on the people. But leading a government fully immersed in corruption, the Prime Minister is unable to tolerate the protest against corruption. How unfortunate!

UPA II Govt’s Ramlila Operation deplorable

India corruption

The midnight action on the people in the Ramlila Grounds is, to say the least, deplorable and condemnable. The UPA government is moving on fascist line when the question of corruption and blackmoney is raised against it.
If Baba Ramdev is a fake as put by the government spokesmen, why did the government sent four cabinet ministers headed by senior most Minister Pranab Mukherjee and conducted discussion with him for hours? It is not a question of the credibility of Baba Ramdev, it is a question of the democratic rights of the people that has been trampled upon by the midnight operation of 5000 police on the peaceful protesters.

UPA II for Labour Reforms – for whose interests?

31 Tuesday May 2011

After the state assembly elections, the UPA II government has started quick action to reform the labour laws in the country. It is reported that about 43 central labour laws are going to be examined and amended or modified. The industry captains have been continuously pressurising the government to modify labour laws to suit their requirements in the neo-liberalisation area. They are not satisfied with the government instructions banning trade union functioning in the Special Economic Zones. They want the trade union rights to be curbed every where. They want the right for hire and fire also. In short, the industry wants to take away even the minimum rights that have been won by the workers through sustained struggles. Another demand of the industrialists are to increase the working hours to 12 hours.
The Government has appointed a Working Group headed by Shri Prabhat Chaturvedi, Labour Secretary, to examine and repeal the laws which are not necessary and which are to be modified etc. in the new situation of neo-liberalisation. A few trade union representatives are also included. But it is well known from the past experience that the voices of the TU leaders were never favourably considered by such committees.
The Central Trade Unions are fully aware of the situation. One of the main demands of the Central Trade Unions in their joint agitations is that the anti-worker policy of the government should be changed.

UPA Government – Two years of high corruption

India corruption

The UPA II Government is celebrating its completion of two years in office now. What is there to celebrate. The entire period has been full of high level corruption including the 2G scam, CWG scam, Adarsh scam, cash for vote scam, Vedas scam and so on involving lakhs and lakhs of crore rupees loss to the Government and the country. Even the enquiries that are being conducted is only due to the pressure from the people as also the strong stand taken by the judiciary.
The Govenment should introspect and act instead of celebrating.

Dr. B.R.Ambedkar- Chief Architect of Indian Constitution

Ambedkar, BR Ambedkar, Indian Constitution

The entire country will be celebrating the 120th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R.Ambedkar today, 14th April 2011. Dr. Ambedkar was the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution.

But Dr. Ambedkar was much more than that. He was a valiant fighter for the cause of social justice and social equality. He fought his entire life for the upliftment of the depressed classes. In the words of Ram Manohar Lohia: ” A valiant person who fought against the evil of exploitation in all its horrid aspects; one who was convinced that caste was the only obstacle to the nation’s progress; one who openly stated that the parliamentary form of democracy would not be successful, unless the epidemic of casteism was eradicated.”
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minister praised him: ” Dr. Ambedkar would be remembered mostly as the symbol of revolt against all the oppressing features of Hindu society. His virulent opposition to these oppressive features had kept people’s mind awake. … He revolted against something which every body should revolt against”.

Dr. Ambedkar was a leader who inculcated self-respect and the potential to fight for justice among the depressed classes.

Despite all these brave words, it is saddening that even in the 21st century, the oppressive system of untouchability and casteism still remain. In Tamil Nadu, under the leadership of the CPI(M), a strong movement against untouchability has started. Many walls constructed to separate the so-called high and low castes in certain villages have been demolished, but still many remain. Lands allotted to SC/ST are snatched away by the powerful people. No serious effort is being made by the government to ensure education to the depressed classes. Reservation is not fully implemented. Even after 60 years of Independence, these discrimination continues.

On this 120th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar, let us take solemn pledge that each one of us will make all out efforts to remove the scourge of untouchability from the country and to ensure that all men/women are equal and have equal rights This will be our dedication to the memory of this great revolutionary.
