Com. SR Nayak, great loss

With profound grief and sorrow, it is intimated that Comrade S.R.Nayak, veteran leader of the P and T Trade Union movement and Circle Secretary of BSNLEU M.P.Circle has passed away at about 01.30 AM, today early morning. He was under treatment at AIIMS Delhi for the last two weeks. For about one month he was suffering from high fever. Yesterday evening we, comrades KG Jayaraj, Animesh Mitra, SC Bhattacharya and myself had visited Com. Nayak. We were under the impression that he was improving. But the end came within a few hours.

Com.Nayak was one of the senior comrades who has spent his entire life for the workers. Despite serious health problems due to Zorosis, he toured and organised the workers. He was the President of the AIBDPA also. His contribution for strengthening BSNLEU is well known to all.

His body has been taken by Ambulance from Delhi and is expected to reach his home at Jabalpur by about midnight or so. The time of cremation will be decided after the family reach at Jabalpur.

Com. Nayak is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters. They were all in the hospital attending him along with sons-in-
law. We share the sorrow of the family and friends.

The departure of Com. S.R.Nayak is a great loss to the movement. We had been together in the up and downs of the movement for a long time, and personally I feel the great loss.

My heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and comrades.

Red Salute to Com. SR Nayak!

INA, Laksmi Saghal

Today, 23rd July 2013, is the first death anniversary of Lakshmi Saghal, the freedom fighter, revolutionary, Communist and social worker. She was the Captain of the Jhansi Rani Regiment of the Indian National Army (INA) led by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Her life of 98 years is full of events, one way or other. She was a Doctor by profession and the same she continued till death, serving the poor in her own clinic in Kanpur, where she stayed with her daughter and well known CPI(M) leader Comrade Subhashini Ali. After Independence, she turned to politics and joined CPI(M). She was one of the founder leaders of the All India Democratic Womens’ Associations (AIDWA) and continued to work for the upliftment of women till her death. She was a contestant to the Post of President of India, supported by the Left Parties.
I had the chance to met her a few times, once in her home at Kanpur itself. Other times, it was mostly in the office of the AIDWA. Though she had mostly lived out of Kerala, she had not forgotten Malayalam and spoke in it.
Red salute to Comrade Captain Lakshmi on her first death anniversary!

Sad News! Comrade Samar Mukherjee, patriarch of the Indian Left, former Member of Parliament, former PB Member CPI(M) and also former General Secretary, CITU passed away today morning at Kolkata. He was 101. His birth centenary was celebrated last year.
He was very simple in living and donated his entire earning to the party. While he was in Delhi, I had the opportunity to meet him several times to bring to notice certain issues of the employees. He was very sympathetic and took up the issues with sincerity and actively.

AC Shanmukhadas

Shri A.C.Shanmukhadas former Minister and 7 times continued MLA and NCP leader passed away at Calicut today at 09.20 PM at the Calicut Medical College. He was 74.

He was closely associated with the LDF in Kerala and was its Minister. he was simple and contacted with the people closely.

I met him first at Manathana Peravoor in 1950s when I was working as a teacher there. He was already in politics. The friendship increased after both of us were in Calicut. I still remember when he was brought to the Calicut Medical College after a serious road accident in the night. The timely attention / operation by the doctor saved his life. I was in the hospital all the time. After many years when we met he reminded me of the same. As Health Minister, he promptly settled certain issues of the medical students and nurses when they were brought to his notice.

I have lost an old friend even though we did not have contact for a long period. My deep grief at his passing away and convey my condolence to his family and friends.

Ho Chi Minh

Ho Chi Minh 1946 and signature.jpg

The Democratic Republic of Vietnam celebrated the 123rd birthday of its first President and Revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh in a big way. Ho Chi Minh was born on 19th May 1890.

Ho chi Minh is an iconic figure who fought heroically for the freedom of the country from the domination of the French imperialism. The guerilla warfare continued for long years. This small country and its people heroically fought inch by inch and defeated the armies of France in 1954 at Dien Bien Phu.  Ho Chi Minh was elected as the first President of the Republic of Vietnam and continued till 1969 till his death. He passed away on 2nd September 1969. He is called  Uncle Ho with full of love by the people

The US  sent its army to crush the free Vietnam. It shamelessly even resorted to  chemical warfare on the civilians to crush the Viet Cong and the Peoples Army of Vietnam. But the mighty US military had to taste bitter defeat at the hands of this small country, but heroic people. It was one of the  biggest defeat the mighty US experienced ever.

.The  capital of Vietnam, Saigon, was renamed as Ho Chi Minh City by the Government in the revered memory of Comrade Ho. This entire week was celebrated by the people of Vietnam as homage to this great Revolutionary.

I pay my respectful homage to Com. Ho Chi Minh, one of the greatest people’s leader the world have ever seen.
