Ports corporatisation

The government is on the move to corporatise at least five of the 13 major ports, which are profitable. At present, they are under the government. The corporatisation is the first step towards privatisation.

The employees unions have strongly protested the move and are planning for further action.

Closure of PSUs, HMT

The fate of 9 sick  PSUs and their staff are sealed. The Heavy industries minister has stated in the Parliament that out of 55 sick units, efforts will be made to revive 46 and the rest 9 will be closed down.

The 9 sick units which will be closed include HMT Bearings, Tungabhadra Steel Products, Hindustan Photo Films, HMT Watches, HMT Chinnar Watches, Hindustan Cables and Spices Trading Corporation.

These were all profit making companies. HMT watches was one of the best PSUs manufacturing the best watches in India. It is only due to the anti-PSU policy of the government that all these PSUs have become loss making.

The government is on the move to close down the PSUs, one after another. These should be opposed and defeated.

privatisation, sale of PSU shares

The government is proposing to sell shares of BHEL, NMDC, NALCO, ONGC, PFC, REC etc. in the financial year 2015-16 to mop up about Rs.41,000 crores. These sales are nothing but handing over of the nation’s assets to the corporate bigwigs for a portion of their real worth. There has been huge corruption in the sale of shares earlier and it will be there in future also. These sales of share are nothing but the steps towards privatisation

Handing over the assets of the nation to the corporate should stop.

Don’t Privatise Kolkata Chennai and other Airports

airports, privatisation

The aggressive move of the Central Government to hand over the Kolkata, Chennai and other profit making airports is strongly opposed. Modernisation of these airports has been done by the Airport Authority of India with huge costs and there is no need for another modernisation immediately. It is intended only for privatisation.

The government should stop this anti-PSU move.

Land Act, strong protest

Amidst strong protest and walk-out by opposition parties, the Land Bill giving powers to the government to acquire and allot for the corporates for industrial use even without the consent of the owner was passed.  Farmers through out the country have strongly protested.

But it will not be easy for the government to pass it in the Rajya Sabha, where it is a minority.

This anti-worker, pro-corporate, pro-rich Land Act should be scrapped.

BSNL, EPF, Non-payment

NEW DELHI: Over 12,100 establishments have been found defaulting on their PF contribution till December this fiscal and action is being initiated against them, Parliament was informed today.

Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh are among the states with highest number of such instances in the last four years up to December 2014-15.

“Instances of non-deposit of contribution by some establishments, covered under Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions have come to the notice of EPFO as they have violated the provisions of the Act and schemes framed thereunder,” Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.(Courtesy : TOI)

BSNL is one  of these firms. The EPF for the contract workers are not being paid in many places by the Contractor/BSNL. This is most shameful for a PSU like BSNL. The BSNL Management should take immediate action to ensure contribution to the EPF.

Spectrum bids

The biggest-ever auction of 2G and 3G spectrum got bids worth Rs. 94,000 crore at the end of the fifth day of the sale process. The bids are expected to cross Rs. one lakh mark.

It is feared that the aggressive bidding may result in hiking the telephone tariffs by the private telecom companies.

Budget, EPF, Labour Laws

As per the Budget Speech of the Finance Minister, it is proposed to make EPF optional for those getting wages up to Rs. 15,000. This is neither good for the worker nor to the any government which is welfare oriented.

This anti-worker move has to be opposed and defeated.

Compensate retrenched workers of Maruti Suzuki – Gurgaon Labour Court

Compensation to dismissed workers, Maruti Suzuki

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Gurgaon  has ordered Maruti Suzuki India limited to pay Rs. one lakh compensation each to the 425 workers who were arbitrarily dismissed after labour unrest in the company in July 2012. Maruti has also been asked to deposit Rs. 4.25 crore with the court for making payment to the workers. The Judge also criticised the harassment of the workers by the company.

According to the order, each worker will get Rs. 85,000 and Rs. 15,000 will go towards court expenses. It is to be noted in this connection that 147 workers are still in jail since July 2012 on the complaint of the company.

The Maruti Suzuki and the then Haryana Government has conspired to ensure that the union formed in the Maruti is not recognised and is broken through arrest, jail and harassment. The entire workers in the Gurgaon area have conducted many protest actions against the victimisation of workers.

We demand the Haryana Government to release the jailed workers and reinstatement of the dismissed workers.

LIC EMPLOYEES TO STRIKE ON 9TH MARCH AGAINST LIC AMENDMENT ACT

Bill, FDI in Insurance, strike

All India Insurance Employees Association (AIIEA) has called upon the LIC employees to go on strike on 9th March 2015, protesting against the passing of the Insurance Amendment Act in the Lok Sabha, increasing the FDI from 26% to 49%. The Insurance employees have been strongly opposing the bill and had warned the government that they will go on strike if the bill is passed.

In passing the bill, the Congress party played a dirty game. It absented itself from voting on the opposition moved resolution opposing the bill. This helped the government to easily pass the bill.

We fully support the strike of the LIC employees!
