Calcutta High Court on 17th April extended the stay on the panchayat poll process in West Bengal and said the State Election Commission’s withdrawal of a notification giving an additional day for filing of nominations was in question before it.
Justice Subrata Talukdar extended the stay on the panchayat poll process till tomorrow morning when the matter would be heard again.
He said that the Supreme Court had asked the SEC to allay apprehensions of the petitioner or any intending candidate, and in line of that the Commission had extended the nomination process by a day.
It, however, withdrew the notification the very next day, which is in question before the court, the judge said, while hearing the SEC and the ruling Trinamool Congress’s challenge of his order to stay the elections. (Courtesy: Ganashakti)

Central Govt. fully responsible for the currency crisis

In the name of reforms and new experiments, the Modi Government is plunging the people in to crisis after crisis making it difficult for them to live peacefully. The Demonetisation  and the GST were implemented by the government with assurance of catching the black marketers, easing the money transactions etc. etc. But what has happened is known to every body. The people suffered months together without money. Day to day life was adversely affected. People thought that the problem of shortage of rupee notes was over.

But NO! the crisis has become more acute and intensive. There is no money in the ATMs in most of the places. The government on its part is accusing the people of withdrawing more money.

It is clear and proved that the Modi government is not sensitive to the need of the people. It moves only for the interests of the corporates. The  it moves fast, very fast!

We condemn these heinous acts against girl children- Punish the guilty.

The rape and murder of an 8 year girl, Asifa, in a temple in Kathua, Jammu and a similar incident of rape in Unnao in U.P. is most condemnable and a crime beyond description. The stand of the governments, both in J ans K and UP to save the culprits is again condemnable.

The central and state governments should take immediate action to arrest all the culprits and also those who are trying to save the culprits. Prime Minister’s assurance that justice will be done should be implemented in its full sense and should not be made a mockery, since the culprits are BJP and high level and highly connected people.

Com. Basudev Acharya, former MP being taken to hospital after Trinamul attack.

Purulia , Apr 6 : CPI(M) Central Committee member and former MP Basudeb Acharya was today attacked by some miscreants and injured along with several other party activists when they were going to the BDO office at Cossipur block in this south Bengaldistrict for filing nomination papers for panchayet elections.

The CPI(M) veteran leader was attacked a day after ex-MP and CPI(M) central committee member Ramchandra Dome received head injury in a bloody attack while proceeding to the BDO office for filing nomination papers at Nalhati in Birbhum district.

We condemn this dastardly attack on the senior leader and demand the government to arrest the culprits. These attacks are being made to stop CPI(M) from filing nominations to the panchayat poll.

Ministry of Labour & Employment
Payment of Gratuity (Amendment) Bill, 2018 passed by Parliament

The Payment of Gratuity (Amendment) Bill, 2018 has been passed by parliament today. The bill ensures harmony amongst employees in the private sector and Public Sector Undertakings/Autonomous Organizations under Government who are not covered under CCS (Pension) Rules. These employees will be entitled to receive higher amount of gratuity at par with their counterparts in Government sector. The bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha today and the Lok Sabha on 15 March, 2018.
The Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972 applies to establishments employing 10 or more persons. The main purpose for enacting this Act is to provide social security to workman after retirement, whether retirement is a result of superannuation, or physical disablement or impairment of vital part of the body. Therefore, the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972 is an important social security legislation to wage earning population in industries, factories and establishments.

The present upper ceiling on gratuity amount under the Act is Rs. 10 Lakh. The provisions for Central Government employees under Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 1972 with regard to gratuity are also similar. Before implementation of 7th Central Pay Commission, the ceiling under CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972 was Rs. 10 Lakh. However, with implementation of 7th Central Pay Commission, in case of Government servants, the ceiling has been raised to Rs. 20 Lakhs.

Therefore, considering the inflation and wage increase even in case of employees engaged in private sector, this Government decided that the entitlement of gratuity should also be revised in respect of employees who are covered under the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972. Accordingly, the Government initiated the process for amendment to Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972 to increase the maximum limit of gratuity to such amount as may be notified by the Central Government from time to time.
In addition, the Bill also envisages to amend the provisions relating to calculation of continuous service for the purpose of gratuity in case of female employees who are on maternity leave from ‘twelve weeks’ to such period as may be notified by the Central Government from time to time.

After enactment of the Act, the power to notify the ceiling of the amount of gratuity under the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972 shall stand delegated to the Central Government so that the limit can be revised from time to time keeping in view the increase in wage and inflation and future pay commissions. (PNB dated 27-03-2018)

A group of journalists belonging to various media organisations today staged a protest outside the Delhi Police Headquarters here, demanding strict action against the police personnel accused of assaulting and molesting media persons. Two journalists yesterday filed separate complaints – one for molestation and another for assault during a protest march organised by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students and teachers. The police lathicharged and used water canons to disperse the crowd near Sanjay Jheel in Lakshmi Bai Nagar.

In a joint statement issued by Press Club of India, Indian Women’s Press Corps, Press Association and Federation of Press Clubs in India, immediate action against the officers was demanded.
The protesters also demanded the Commissioner of Police to hear their grievances.
One of the protesting journalists who didn’t wanted to be named said, “What happened yesterday was not only shocking but scary. It shows the lack of discipline of police forces that enforces law and order in the city…It is especially worse for women reporters.” (Courtesy: PTI)
