Modi undermined Air Force _ Sitaram Yechuri

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury alleged on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had consistently undermined the Air Force and the Defence Ministry to benefit his “cronies” in the Rafale deal.

Yechury’s comments come after a report in The Hindu newspaper claimed that the Defence Ministry had raised strong objections to “parallel discussions” conducted by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) during the negotiations over the Rs 59,000-crore Rafale deal between India and France.

“Modi has consistently undermined the Air Force & Defence Ministry in the Rafale deal for corruption, to benefit his cronies. His actions have hurt the public exchequer & damaged national security. These facts have been hidden from Supreme Court where a review petition is pending,” Yechury tweeted.

“The PM must take responsibility for the loss to the exchequer, violation of procedure to get far fewer fighter jets than what Air Force wanted. All just to help cronies,” the Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader said.

Yechury alleged that the “wires in this scam go straight to the top man”. “For whose benefit was Modi undermining defence ministry & Air Force? Why was IAF’s Deputy Chief forced to write to Modi’s PMO to stop ‘parallel negotiations’ with France?” The Left leader asked.

“We have always said Modi is directly involved in corruption & cronyism in this ? 59,000 crore Rafale scam,” he added.

The Centre has strongly denied any wrongdoing in the fighter jet agreement with France, with Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman dismissing the media report on the deal as “flogging a dead horse” and slamming the Opposition for playing into the hands of “vested interests”.(Courtesy: Ganashakti)

Modi Government on sticky grounds on Rafale deal

The article by Shri N.Ram on Rafale deal with authentic details and evidences in the Hindu has put the Modi Government on sticky grounds. Neither the central government is able to defend properly nor able to put their facts correct.
There is no doubt that more facts exposing the government is going to come. This will be one major issue in the coming general elections.

Thousands of students from varsities across the country braved the winter chill and marched from the Red Fort to Parliament Street in Delhi on Thursday to demand better employment and educational opportunities. More than 50 youth groups, student unions and organisations came together in December last year to form the Young India National Coordination Committee, under whose banner the Young India Adhikar March was held on Thursday.
The central government should take action for creating new jobs. What is happening is that even the existing jobs are going away. The youth are angry and desperate.

Students’ March to Parliament for jobs

07 Thursday Feb 2019

Student leaders on Tuesday accused the Union government of presenting an Interim Budget that was silent on the issue of jobs and employment opportunities for youth in the country.

Students under various outfits will march from the historic Red Fort to Parliament on Thursday in protest, they said in a joint statement.

N Sai Balaji, the president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union, said, “(Prime Minister Narendra) Modi will come to young India for one more chance. But this time we are

not going to give him any chance as our PM. Modi has ruined our future. Through our unity we are going to ensure all vacant government jobs are filled, 10 per cent of GDP is spent on education, gender and social justice is ensured.”

Student leaders from AISA, Pinjra tod, Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha, Aam Aadmi Party students’ wing Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), Youth for Swaraj etc. argued how the budget was conspicuous by its silence on the issue of jobs, except for pompously declaring that job-seekers have turned job-creators in India.

“This is a huge blow to the youth of the country who are suffering from massive unemployment rate in the wake of demonetisation. The budget is equally silent about the key demands of regularisation and minimum wages raised by employees,” they said in the statement.

Shivani from CYSS said campuses have been turned into “war zones” by the Modi government.(Courtesy: Ganashakti)

US wants to capture our oil and mineral resources – Nicolas Maduro, President, Venezuela

31 Thursday Jan 2019

Caracas, January 30 : Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro assured Wednesday that the main reason for the growing pressure exerted by the United States against his government is the desire to seize its oil and mineral resources.
In an exclusive interview with the Russian outlet Sputnik, the president made reference to the mineral and natural wealth of his country as the reason behind Washington supporting coup efforts against his country.
“The direct reason is seizing the oil of Venezuela, because we have the largest oil reserves certified, we certify what will be the largest reserves of gold in the world, we have the fourth record of the world’s largest gas, and we have large reserves of coltan, diamonds, aluminum, iron, we have drinking water reserves throughout the national territory, we are an energy and natural resources powerhouse,” said the Venezuelan president.
President Nicolas Maduro reiterated that his country is a sovereign and independent nation and that it is not part of the U.S. backyard. “They (the United States) consider us their ‘backyard’ and we say that we are not anyone’s backyard, we are an independent republic.”
Given the possibilities of a dialogue with the opposition political sectors, the Venezuelan head of state reported that there are reserved contacts between authorities of several countries to try a new approach that puts an end to the situation in Venezuela.
“At the moment it is in the stage of private conversations, telephone conversations, among presidents, foreign ministers, our foreign minister Jorge Arreaza is very active, and we hope that there will be good results in the next few hours,” said the Venezuelan president.
He indicated that it is “several governments, several instances” that “have launched the idea of a dialogue supported by the governments of Mexico, Uruguay, Bolivia, Russia and other European countries.
The United States imposed sanctions on the Venezuelan oil company PDVSA Monday, blocking US$7 billion in company assets and warning that the payment of any purchase of crude oil made by local companies would go to blocked accounts.
However, the Bolivarian government responded that no vessel with crude oil will be landed in the United States, until payments are made to the Venezuelan government.(Courtesy: Ganashakti)

George Fernandez

Comrade George Fernandez, former Defence as also Communications Minister and the militant leader of the 1974 Railways Strike passed away today morning (29-01-2019) at a New Delhi Hospital. He was 88. He was bedridden for a long time and was under treatment for Alzheimer illness.

George Fernandez, was a Socialist and was a fiery speaker. He was jailed several times, including at the time of the railways strike in 1974 which he led and during the National Emergency of 1975. The Railway Strike in May 1974 demanding Bonus for railway employees continued for about three weeks and thousands of workers were arrested and jailed. ESMA and other black rules were used to suppress the workers. But after the Janatha Government came in to power, Bonus was first granted to Railways workers and then to CG employees etc. During National Emergency’ Fernandez was handcuffed and jailed till Emergency was over. He contested the elections from jail and was released only after the victory of Janatha party. For some time he was Minister of Communications also, during which period I met him and discussed about victimisation cases. He was most considerate.

His speech was inspiring. I still remember his speech at Mudalakkulam Maidan, Kozhikode, which was being translated in equally fiery tone by Com. M.P.Veerendrakumar, both of whom were in the Socialist party at that time.

He later joined NDA and was Defence Minister in Vajpayee government. For the last few years he was ill and under treatment. Now the end has come.

A great working class leader has passed away. Heartfelt condolences!
