Cash for seats – now it is the former Karnataka Chief Minister

Cash for seat, corruption, Kumaraswamy

One other cash-for-seats scam has been revealed. Former Karnataka Chief Minister Shri HD Kumaraswamy JD(U) is shown in a video agreeing for Rs. 20 crore to give a seat in the Upper House to an applicant.
The interesting factor is that the former Chief Minister is not denying the video, but is justifying that by telling that Congress, BJP, every body is doing the same.
The Indian politicians have gone down the drain to the lowest stage.

No Opposition Leader in Lok Sabha? Congress Claim being denied?

Congress, Lok Sabha, Opposition Leader

It seems that the Lok Sabha will have no Opposition Leader this time. For granting the status of Opposition Leader, at least 10% of the total seats in the Parliament are required as per Convention. The Congress, the second biggest party, got only 44 seats, while the requirement is at least 54 seats, 10% of the total 540 seats. The Opposition Leader posts carry many privileges including the rank of a Cabinet Minister, with supportive staff etc.
It is reported that the Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan is expected to take a decision as per convention. There was no Leader of Opposition during the Prime Ministership of Pandit jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi. In the first few Parliaments, though the Communist Party of India was the second party, its leader Com. A.K.Gopalan M.P., was never given the status of the Opposition Leader.
Congress Party is reaping what it has sown.

It is reported that after this General Elections, only three parties are expected to remain as National Parties. They are BJP, Congress and CPI(M). CPI is being taken away from the National Party status. However, no notification has been issued in this matter.

Agartala, May 17 The ‘Namo wave’ failed to influence voters in Tripura, which remained a Communist bastion with the Left Front retaining both the Lok Sabha seats with record margins and a vote share of 64.0 per cent. The results could not be declared yesterday because of EVM malfunctions.
Jitendra Chowdhury, a former industries and commerce minister, who won the state assembly elections seven times, won the East Tripura (ST) seat defeating his nearest Congress candidate and an educationist, Sachitra Debbarma by a margin of 484358 votes.
Likewise, Sankarprasad Dutta, a trade unionist contested the West Tripura Parliamentary constituency for the first time and defeated his rival Congress candidate, Arunoday Saha, a former vice-chancellor of Tripura university by a margin of 503486 rpt 503486 votes.

Congratulations to the people of Tripura !

General Elections 2014

As expected, the turn-out of voters in 2014 general elections is a record 66.38 % as per the Election Commission statement after the polling was over today. It may be slightly increased also after final check.

The maximum polling earlier was in 1984-85 election when the voter turn out was 64.1% with a sympathy wave on the assassination of Indira Gandhi.

The increase in voting is good for democracy. Congratulations to the voters.

The voting concludes today – Who will win?

General Elections 2014

By today evening, the general elections polling will be over. The results will be out by 16th May 2014.
The moot question is who will win? It is certain that no single party or alliance is going to reach the majority magic number of 272. As per the majority media reports Congress will lose heavily with no chance of forming the government. BJP may get the number one position, but no majority to form the government. Most of the regional parties have stated that they will have no truck with BJP.

There is a chance of formation of a third front government, if the regional parties come together with the support or at the initiative of the Left Parties. This will be the best option for the country. Congress may not like such a situation, but they may be compelled to support the third front, at least to avoid a BJP Government.

The exit polls will start coming by today evening and the results will be declared on 16th May. Let us wait for the same.

General Election Campaign over, Last Phase on 12th May, Results on 16th May 2014

Elections 2014

The campaign for the general elections 2014 is over by today, 10th May. The last phase of polling will be on 12th and the counting and announcement of the results will be on 16th May.
The biggest election process this time has seen many twists and turns as also fierce verbal attacks between the parties and even top leaders. The reason is very clear. This is a fight to the last. The Congress wants somehow to save its face, leave alone the question of winning majority seats to form the government. Its incumbency, non-governance, unlimited corruptions etc. may reduce its seats to may be less than three digits. BJP is putting a big show that it will win a majority. The corporates are making big propaganda through the media that BJP or rather Mody will get majority. But it is not the ground reality. There is strong opposition from all sides to the divisive and communal policy.
The common people do not want a strong government which will attack their livelihood further. That will be the case, if any of the two major parties get majority and power. A third alternative with the secular regional parties and Left parties will be the ideal. There is a good chance for the same.

Let us wait for the results on 16th May.

“Chance for Third Force in Elections” – Prakash Karat

CPI(M), General Elections

Ludhiana, Apr 20 : CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat today claimed there is a strong “anti-Congress wave” in the country which would benefit the Third Force and not the BJP.
“Forget that the country will have a Congress government this time,” he told reporters here.
When asked if they would seek the support of the Congress in forming the government, he shot back, “It is for the Congress party to see whether they have to support the secular forces or not.”
In reply to another question regarding the book ‘Accidental Prime Minister’ written by Sanjaya Baru, a former media advisor of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the CPI(M) leader terms it as a purely subjective version but he totally disagreed with what had been written about the role of the Left parties.
Karat was in the city to seek votes for the CPI(M) candidate from Ludhiana Sukhminder Singh Sekhon. (PTI)

Corrupt Congress will face worst ever defeat’ – Prakash Karat

13 Sunday Apr 2014

Chennai, Apr 12 CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat today claimed Congress was poised for its worst ever defeat in Lok Sabha polls due to its ‘corrupt’ regime and wrong economic policies, but said BJP would be worse than the UPA in implementing “neo liberal” economic policies.
UPA was the “most corrupt” regime since independence and people had already decided to vote it out. “A severe punishment is awaiting Congress in the polls,” Karat told an election rally here, campaigning for party candidate Vasuki in North Chennai Parliamentary constituency.
Lashing out at UPA for the various scams, including the 2G spectrum one, and the economic policies, he said such policies, including deregulation of fuel prices, led to steep increase in the prices of all essential commodities.
Assailing the tax concessions to industry which, he claimed, were to the tune of 21 lakh crore rupees in the past five years, he alleged Congress policies enriched the rich corporates to make “super profits” even while it cut down subsidy on food and fertilisers.
Hitting out at BJP and Narendra Modi for harping on the Gujarat development model, he said such a model only served to be a “laboratory for Hindutva which led to relegation of minorities to second class citizens”.
Another aspect of this model was giving tax concessions and free land and power to corporates to enable them make super profits, he charged.
“If Narendra Modi comes to power, a much worse situation will emerge where super exploitation and looting of the country by the corporates will take place. The BJP is worse than the Congress in implementing neo liberal policies,” Karat said.
Only the Left parties offered an alternative policy as there was no difference between the BJP and the Congress in their economic policies, he said.
Stronlgy criticising the DMK for extending an olive branch to the Congress, he said the “DMK is not going to a new direction..It is in no way breaking with its past and it is fully discredited due to its role in graft in the UPA”.
Pointing out that both DMK and AIADMK had aligned with either the BJP and the Congress to serve their “narrow interests”, he asked why Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was silent about Modi and the BJP.
