The circle and district branches of All India BSNL-DOT Pensioners Association (AIBDPA) organised general body meetings, rallies, seminars etc. in connection with the Pensioners’ Day on 17th December. The union is observing the day in connection with the historic judgement given by Supreme Court on 17th December 1982,in D.S.Nakera Vs Government of India case declaring that Pension is not a charity but the right and pensioners cannot be discriminated on the basis of their date of retirement. This is a Magna carta of the Pensioners all over the country.
In the rallies and meetings, the leaders explained the judgement and also pointed out the anti-pensioner move of the government to pass the PFRDA Bill, against the interest of the workers and the pensioners. This attack on the security of the pensioners has to be opposed and defeated.

It was on 17th December 1982,the Supreme Court pronounced the historic and landmark judgement in D.S.Nakera Vs Government of India case declaring that Pension is not a charity but the right and pensioners cannot be discriminated on the basis of their date retirement. This day is being observed as the Pensioners day and when we observe the Pensioners Day this time,challenges are looming large in the form of attacks from none other than the central government to scuttle the very concept of statutory pension.The government has already decided to allow FDI in pension sector also and they are going ahead with the PFRDA bill,determined to get it passed by the Parliament in the current winter session of parliament. Therefore the pensioners as well as the workers have to resist the onslaught of the ruling class with all their might.( AIBDPA Website)

AIBDPA formed in Gujarat Circle

All India BSNL DOT Pensioners Association has been formed in Gujarat Circle. In connection with the formation, a convention/seminar on “Save BSNL, Save the Nation” was held at Nadiad on 1st December 2012 which was participated by more than four hundred comrades, including pensioners. Com.VAN Namboodiri and other leaders were given a grand reception. The Seminar was addressed by Coms. V.A.N.Namboodiri, President, BSNLEU, P.K.Thakkar, Circle President, BSNLEU, Gujarat, M.B.Chaniara, Co-Ordinator, AIBDPA, Shri Ashuthosh Sharma, GM, Nadiad, S.S.Meena, DGM Nadiad, T.V.Gelani, DS, Nadiad and other leaders. A large number of women comrades also participated.

The meeting of the pensioners met in the presence of Com. V.A.N.Namboodiri, Advisor, AIBDPA and elected Com. A.C.Shah as Patron, Com. T.V.Gelani as President and Com. M.B.Chaniara as Circle Secretary. Co-ordinators for the districts were nominated. All the comrades assured that within one/two months, district unions will be formed. District unions are already functioning in Bharuch and Surendranagar.

The Circle Conferences of the Kolkatta and W.Bengal  AIBDPA and the Joint Convention of the two circles were held from  26th to 28th November 2012  at Kolkata. The circle Conference of Kolkata was on 26th ,W.Bengal on 28th and the joint convention on 27th November.

The Joint Convention was held on 27th at the CTO Conference Hall. The Hall was not only full, but many comrades were standing outside. Except a few leaders of BSNLEU etc. all others were the DOT-BSNL retirees. A good number of women pensioners were also present.

The Convention was presided over by Coms. Ananta Bhattacharjee and P.Rai, President of Kolkata and Vice-President of W.Bengal Circle Unions of AIBDPA. Coms. V.A.N.Namboodiri, President BSNLEU & Advisor AIBDPA, .K.G.Jayaraj, General Secretary,AIBDPA, S.S.Ray, Secretary Co-Ordn. Committee, Animesh Mitra, Dy. GS & Circle Secretary, BSNLEU W.B.Circle, Saibal Sen Gupta,AGS & Circle Secretary, Kolkata, Om Prakash Singh, Circle secretary, Telecom Factory, Adhir Kumar sen, Circle secretary, Telecom Stores, ( all BSNLEU), Supriyo Mitra, Circle Secretary, Kolkata, Susantha Ghosh, Circle Secretary, W.B.Circle, D. Com. K.G.Jayaraj, General Secretary, All India BSNL DOT Pensioners Association(AIBDPA), while speaking to the press a Erode announced that the AIBDPA will participate in all the programmes of the Central Trade Unions  decided in the National Convention held in Delhi on 4th September 2012. Though the pensioners can not go on strike, but they will give all support and solidarity to the strike on 20-21 February 2013 by holding demonstrations and participating in the joint rally etc. The pensioners very well know that this struggle is to defend the rights of people including pensioners.

Today I reached Erode to attend the Circle Conference of AIBDPA to be held here tomorrow, 14th October 2012. I reached Coimbatore by flight from Delhi at about 1200 hours and comrades were waiting under the leadership of Com. Umapathy to receive me and take to Erode, We Reached at Erode by about 1500 hours. The District Conference of AIBDPA, Erode was in progress and was almost going to end. More than 100 delegates were present . Erode has got about 300 members of the AIBDPA and is functioning effectively under the leadership of Com. Ayyasamy. There are about one hundred subscribers to  ‘Tele Pensioner’, journal of the AIBDPA.

Tomorrow is the Circle Conference of AIBDPA, Tamil Nadu Circle. Com.K.G.Jayaraj, General Secretary, AIBDPA, Com. S.Chellappa, Circle secretary, BSNLEU and others will be addressing in addition to me. About 500 delegates will be attending. Circle President Com. Mohan Doss and Circle Secretary, Com. C.K.Narasimhan have already reached and is holding the Circle Executive meeting today evening. A Press Conference will be held tomorrow by Com.Jayaraj, General Secretary.

Tanil Nadu comrades have taken seriously about the building up of the AIBDPA and is on the correct path. My congratulations to all of them!

Protest Day observed by Pensioners

As per the call of the All India BSNL DOT Pensioners Association, pensioners along with BSNL employees held protest demonstrations in many centres all over India protesting the decision of the government allowing 49% FDI in Pension and Insurance sectors. The government’s decision is an attack on the hard-earned pension funds of the workers. If the pension  corpus is left to the vagaries of the market and in to the hands of MNCs, there is every chance that the pension funds may be wiped out as happened in US and Euro countries putting the pensioners helpless.

Struggle by the pensioners will continue till the anti-worker, anti-pensioner decision is withdrawn.

The  General Secretary of the All India BSNL – DOT Pensioners Association (AIBDPA), Com.K.G.Jayaraj has, in a statement, strongly protested against the Cabinet decision on bringing  49% FDI in the Pension Sector. There is no need at all to bring FDI in this sector. Already the pension corpus is having lakhs of crores of rupees. It is only to capture this corpus by the corporates and MNCs that the FDI in this sector is decided.

Entry of such MNCs and Corporates in the Euro countries and US had disastrous results. The Pension Funds were put in the market and during the recession, everything was lost. Millions of pensioners lost their entire life savings in the recession. This is what is going to happen if the FDI comes in pension sector. The pension is in danger. We have to oppose and fight against this anti-worker decision.

AIBDPA has called for organising protest demonstrations on 8th October 2012 as the immediate action. All pensioners should actively participate and make the demonstration a big success.

NCCPA leaders meet at New Delhi

After the Parliament March today, the leaders and representatives of the NCCPA and AIBDPA who were present met at Ambedkar Bhawan and discussed the future programmes. The meeting called upon all state units to organise March to Raj Bhawan and submit memorandum to the Governors on the 19 point charter of the Pensioners. ( In Kerala, the March was held today very successfully).

The meeting also decided to authorise the CHQ to discuss with the Confederation and synchronise the future programme including the dharna at District level/state level etc. Coms.S.K.Vyas, Secretary General and  V.A.N.Namboodiri, Patron of NCCPA were present along with other office-bearers.

Attack on the workers in the name of Reforms

The ruling party, Congress, has in its apex committee  decided to aggressively to press for reforms in the name of improving the economy. But what actually happening is the surrender of the government to the demands of the corporates, MNCs and the super rich. Approval of the PFRDA in the parliament is one of the main agenda.

What is Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Bill? It is for utilising the hard-earned money of the workers in the Provident Fund to be diverted to the business houses for infusion of capital and do their business. The Pension Fund coming to lakhs of crores of rupees will be placed at the disposal of selected Fund Managers who will put in the stock market or for business. If something untoward happens, the entire pension find is gone. This actually has happened in the West and US.

Are we going to allow this. It is a big NO! The workers will continue their strong protests and struggles against this attack on the workers.
