25th of April is celebrated every year as National Telephone Day. It is in memory of the first telephone conversation between the founder of telephone, Alexander Graham Bill and his friend Thomas Watson on 25 th April 1876, 148 years back.

The first words were ” Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you.” The usual address ” Hello ” came later.

Telephones have developed fast with new and newer technologies. In our own time, we saw the Magnetic, Central Battery, Strowger, Automatic, Electronic systems as also mobile phones. It was a fast journey.

The mobile / cellular phones are a combination of all communication services along with innumerable services. We are fortunate to have seen all these changes.

We are also sad that the great telephone services in India, which grew as part of the government and also as a PSU ( BSNL, MTNL) is being weakened and tried to be destroyed by the government itself, despite strong opposition and struggles by the workers to save the same.
