Inexcusable Delay in issue of orders on Minimum Wage

07 Tuesday Jun 2016

Months back, the Labour Minister has announced that minimum wage of Rs. 10,000 is decided for the contract workers. This is far less than the Rs.18,000 demanded by the Central Trade unions and they have protested fixing the minimum wage at Rs. 10,000.

But even what it has announced, the government has not issued orders. This is inexcusable. The government is only making announcements and not implementing them.

Kerala Labour Minister Com. T.P.Ramakrishnan has stated that there is no declared or undeclared ban on recruitment in government services in Kerala. He stated that instructions have already been issued to find out the vacancies in each and every department and the same will be filled up. The UDF government had kept thousands of vacancies without filling up them denying employment to the eligible candidates.
The Labour Minister further stated that the LDF government is committed to generate about 25 lakhs new jobs in the state. As part of this, all the vacancies in the government will be filled up urgently.

LDF government is pro-labour unlike UDF government. Common people have understood the same.

PSU Banks loss about Rs.18,000 crore.

NPA, PSU Banks

According to the Finance Minister Arun Jaitely, the total loss to the PSU Banks is about Rs. 18,000 crores. The loss is mostly due to the NPA or bad loans of hundreds of crores of rupees given to the corporates, including almost all the important business concerns in the country. These loans are given without proper procedure, on the recommendations of the political bigwigs and also in collaboration with the top officers of the banks. The indications are that these loans are taken with the full confidence that the borrowers can escape without repaying the loan.It is very much necessary that a high level inquiry should be ordered and remedial measures taken to recover these loans. But since the top politicians, big corporates and top Bank Officers are involved, the chance for any sincere inquiry is doubtful.
The silver lining is that despite these NPAs, the PSU Banks are having an operational profit of Rs. 1.40 lakh crores.

Homage, Mohammed Ali

Mohammed Ali, the greatest sportsman and heavy weight Champion is no more. He passed away at the age of 74 at Phoenix, US. He fought not only in the ring but also outside for great causes. He refused to fight for the US in its attack against Vietnam and was imprisoned by the US imperialism. He was a spokesperson for the suppressed and the downtrodden.

Respectful homage to Mohammed Ali!

Associate Banks, Merger, Protest, SBI

The Finance Minster Arun Jaitely has stated that he is expecting early govt. decision on the merger of the Associated Banks with the State bank of India. The Associate banks are State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Mysore and State Bank of Hyderabad. Mahila Bank also will be merged.
SBI first merged State Bank of Saurashtra with itself in 2008. Two years later, State Bank of Indore was merged.
SBI has maintained since then that it would merge others as well but none of its moves fructified due to lack of capital (which was pegged at least Rs 2,000 crore each for per bank) and stiff opposition from employee unions.

The Bank Employees have strongly protested the merger move since it will neither improve the services nor improve the finance of the SBI.

Responding to the strong protest against move for VRS in BSNL from the Forum and the unions, the CMD BSNL Shri Anupam Shrivastava, in a statement from Pune has informed that there is no proposal at present to implement VRS in BSNL.

So far so good! The workers are being tested now and then to assess their reaction. Workers have understood the intentions of the management for VRS and they are not going to allow the same, which is against the interests of the workers and the company itself.
