Grant interest free loan to flood affected Chennai employees

Chennai, Flood affected

Like all others, BSNL employees in Chennai and near by parts of T. Nadu are victims of the unprecedented floods that ravaged the city during the last two weeks. They have suffered great loss and restoring every thing means a lot of expenditure. It is understood that all the unions/associations have met the CMD BSNL during his visit to Chennai a few days back and requested  for interest free loan to pass over the crisis.

Their demand is fully justified. The BSNL Management, despite the financial difficulties of the company, should some how manage to give the interest free loan as requested by the unions/associations. An early action will be much appreciated by the workers.

Review the right to contest – CPI(M)

CPI(M), Right to contest, SC

New Delhi, December 10: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) considers the latest ruling of the Supreme Court upholding minimum education qualifications as a prerequisite for candidates contesting panchayat polls in Haryana as being violative of the fundamental feature of universal suffrage guaranteed to all citizens of India by the Indian Constitution.

Universal suffrage is not limited only to the right to vote.  All those who have the right to vote also automatically have the right to contest.  Such restrictions on the right to contest are against the spirit of the constitutional right of universal suffrage and the principle of equality before law.

By setting such preconditions for contesting panchayat and local bodies elections, a large section of the rural poor have been excluded from their basic right to be elected representatives.

At the beginning of the current winter session, the Indian Parliament reaffirmed  its resolve to implement our Constitution and the Central government has declared a new observance every year of the Constitution Day on November 26.

The PB of the CPI(M) considers that this present ruling should be reviewed by the full Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court.

9th December – International Anti-Corruption Day

9th December 2015, Anti-Corruption Day

9th December is being organised as the International Anti-Corruption Day. This day is being observed as such since 2005.

In India, corruption has gone beyond all limits. The common people are fed up with the corruption at all levels. Politicians, government officials – all are involved in corruption and the same is more at the highest levels. BSNL is not exempt. A large number of vigilance cases are pending against, mainly top officers. There should be an end to it.

The message for the day from the UN Secretary General is given below:

“The new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, our plan to end poverty and ensure lives of dignity for all, recognizes the need to fight corruption in all its aspects and calls for significant reductions in illicit financial flows as well as for the recovery of stolen assets. ”

— Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Message for the 2015 International Anti-Corruption Day

Telecom Companies fined Rs. 2,513 crore for non-verification of customers

Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told the Parliament yesterday that the telecom companies have been fined a total of Rs. 2,513 crores for failing to implement the customer verification guidelines. The violation was found out through the verification by the TERM cells. The private companies are in the habit of providing connections without proper verification in order to increase their customers and get more profit.

EPFO market investment has no government guarantee – Labour Minister

EPF, Stock Markets

Labour Minister Bandaru Dattathreya stated in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha yesterday, 9th December 2015, that there is no government guarantee for the stock investments being made by the EPFO. The reply stated that ” The government has not provided any guarantee for such investments in the stock market as investment in such instruments are subject to market movements”.

This makes clear what the employees were telling all along. There is no guarantee for the hard earned Provident Funds of the workers that is put in the stock market by the EPFO. The unions are completely opposed to put the Provident Fund amounts in the stock market. The Central Trade Unions should compel the EPFO  to drop its decision to invest in stock markets.

There is every justification for increasing the interest rate of EPF since the earnings have increased. Last year, the interest was 8.75%. The unions have demanded for higher interest and according to the Labour minister, there is chance for an increase. The EPFO should announce the increase.

Pensions not paid in Delhi Corporations for more than one year

Delhi, pension

It is reported in the Economic Times today that the old age and other welfare pensions in the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi has not bee paid for the last one year due to crunch of funds. All these Corporations are run by the BJP.  How the poor old aged people can manage their day to day lives without getting the pension? This is most cruel.

The Central and Delhi state governments should immediately ensure that the pensions are paid, if necessary by allotting sufficient funds to the corporations to pay the pension with arrears.

Delhi as Polluted City will have negative impact on Tourism – Minister

Central Minister Mahesh Sharma expressed concern yesterday, 9th December 2015, while inaugurating the National Museum’s art gallery at Udyog Bhawan, that the message going that Delhi is a polluted city will have negative impact on the tourism in the country. Crores of tourists are coming to Delhi every year and the tag of pollution to the city will certainly adversely affect the incoming tourists.

Central and state governments have to jointly make all out efforts to reduce pollution in the capital city, which is not only threatening tourism, but also the health of the population in the city. The people also have to share the responsibility.
