The National League for Democracy (NLD) headed by Aung San Suu Kyi has a landslide victory in the elections held in Myanmar defeating the present ruling party Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP). Aung San Suu Kyi and her party have been fighting for the last many years for free elections. She won in the 1990 elections with good majority, but was not allowed to rule by the Military Junta which took over. She was made a captive in her house for many years.

The people of Myanmar has given thumping majority to NLD. Now what the military junta will do has to be seen.  We hail the victory of democracy in our neighbor country
