4th death anniversary, MK Pandhe

download

Com.M.K.Pandhe, the veteran trade union leader, former President of CITU and PB Member of CPI(M) left us four years back on 20th August 2011. 20th August 2015 is the fourth death anniversary which will be observed in a befitting way.

Com. Pandhe was highly  educated and a voracious reader. His speeches were trade union classes. In organising the strikes and struggles against the anti-worker neo-liberal policies since 1991, he had a pivotal role and was always in the leading position.

Com. Pandhe was a guide and teacher to the telecom  Workers and BSNL Employees Union specially. In all the crises, he was there to help and give advice. We remember the inspiration he has given to us to march forward in the TU activities.

Red Salute to Com. M.K.Pandhe on his 4th death anniversary!

Revival of BSNL, SIM cards

It is good news for BSNL! There is growth in SIM sales!

According to reports received, BSNL has increased its SIM card sales by 85% within the two months June and July 2015. The total sales in May was 8,67,086, which increased to 11,76,143 in June  and to 16,10,061 in July 2015.

While the maximum % of increase is in Kolkata ( 793%) and UP West ( 431.95%).   Maximum number of SIMs sold in July  are in UP(East) ( 1,91,660) and A.P.(1,50,478).

The increase is naturally due to the new schemes and cheap rates. In addition, the “Save BSNL Campaign” started by the Forum had its own effect.

Hearty Congratulations to all the Comrades who made this growth! We have to continue and increase our efforts for the revival of BSNL.

Casual labour, Gratuity

BSNLCCWF and BSNLEU have been putting pressure on the management for implementation of gratuity for casual labour. It is now approved by the BSNL Management Committee. But before placing the same to the BSNL Board, the financial implications are to be found out and for this purpose all the CGMs have been asked to inform the necessary details. Since some of the circles are yet to submit the details, the Corporate Office has reminded on 19-08-2015 the circles to furnish the information. The order is placed in the BSNLCCWF website.

Circle Secretaries of BSNLEU and BSNLCCWF are requested to check with the concerned CGMs whether the details have been furnished to the C.O. or not. In case, it is not so far submitted, ensure that it is done without any further delay. THIS IS TO BE TREATED AS MOST URGENT.

After much efforts by the BSNLCCWF for implementation of gratuity to the BSNL Casual labours and also taking up the matter in the Parliamentary Standing Committee and several rounds of discussion with the BSNL Management, the BSNL Managing Committee has approved the same. This has to go to the BSNL Board for approval, before necessary orders are issued.

This is a great achievement for the casual labours. Congratulations to BSNLCCWF!

Comrade P.Krishna Pillai

67th Death Anniversary of Com. P.Krishna Pillai  on 19th August 19, 2015

krishnapillai_ph

It was on 19th August 1948, that  Comrade P.Krishna Pillai, the Revolutionary Communist leader, passed  away after   a poisonous snake bite, while in underground.  Though India got independence on15th August 1947 and the political prisoners who fought for freedom for the country were released, many communists were still  in jail. A witch hunt against the Communists was going on by  Congress government, the new rulers.  Com.P.Krishna Pillai, as the foremost leader of the Communist Party in Kerala, was leading the struggle from underground. All the plans of the police to arrest him were in vain. He shifted from one shelter to another shelter with the help of committed workers and Communists.

While he was in a shelter, a small hut, in Mohamma, Alleppey, and he preparing some documents for the party, a very poisonous snake bit him. He was aware that he will not live long. Before collapsing, he wrote as the last words, “ Comrades, Forward”  and passed away. He was only 42.

Com.P.Krishna Pillai was known as “Comrade”.  That one word is sufficient to bring the memory of the great leader who built up the party in Kerala.

On his 67th Death Anniversary, we pledge to continue the struggle for the emancipation of the toiling masses.

Telecom TU Movement 1991-2015 - Moni Bose

Moni Bose – A life of Struggles

Moni Bose, who was elected as the new General Secretary, was no new person to the union. He has been in the forefront of struggles and activities since his entry as a clerk in the office of the Divisional Engineer, Telegraphs, City Division, Calcutta in August 1945.

Moni was the younger brother of Com.K.G.Bose, the veteran leader of the P&T Trade Union movement, who was  President of NFPTE. KG died on 11th December 1974 at the age of 54 due to cancer.

Within one year of Moni Bose’s entry in service, the 1946 P & T Strike started. He was actively involved in the strike which was organised under the leadership of Comrades Dada Ghosh, K.G.Bose and others in Bengal. As an active  member of the Indian Telegraph Association (ITA), Moni participated in the strike.

He took a very active role in the formation of the Union of P&T Workers (UPTW) in 1947, which was formed by merging all the existing P&T Unions.

A strike was proposed to be organised in P&T in 1948-49, but even before the strike could start, most of the leaders were arrested and jailed. Moni was also arrested. Department immediately terminated his services with some other comrades. He was never reinstated in the department, but continued to work in the union.

After the death of his brother K.G.Bose, Moni was elected to the post of W.Bengal Circle Secretary of the All India Telegraph Engineering Employees Union Class III (E.III Union). In 1976 Chandigarh AIC, he was elected as Vice-President of E.III(CHQ). He continued in that capacity till, along with other comrades, resigned the post in 1991 protesting against the anti-worker agreements signed by OPG.

In October 1991, he was elected as General Secretary of E III Union at the Bhopal AIC. He was elected as the President of the Union in 1994 Thiruvananthapuram AIC. To enable the union to apply for recognition under the New Recognition Rules, he resigned the post in 1996, so that a working employee can be made President.

Moni Bose was a good orator and conversationalist. Firmly committed to progressive ideology, he lived a simple life at his residence at Calcutta, after leaving from CHQ New Delhi. He was fully active in the union till his end. He passed away at Calcutta on 19th May 2010 after a severe heart attack.

Com. Moni Bose is survived by his wife, Jyotsna Bose, also a retired employee (Telephone operator). They have two children. Dr.Gautam Bose is practicing in his own clinic at Kolkata, while the daughter, Smt. Susmita Bose is married to Com. Neelotpal Basu, former M.P. and CC Member of CPI(M) and employed in New Delhi.(To be continued)

Surrender of BSNL connections – Approach the subscribers for re-connection.

BSNL, loss of connections

It was reported in press yesterday that BSNL had lost about 2 crore connections, including landlines and broadband connections during the last one year. The report also stated that BSNL service is not able to compete with the private services.

If it is a fact, it is a sad commentary on BSNL and its services. BSNL and its workers have to give a very serious thought to it. This is a wake up a call.

What is to be done now? We can not allow such surrender of connections to take place weakening BSNL. Then, what is the remedy? What action is to be taken.

Number One. We have to find out immediately what is the reason for these large number of surrenders. It can be found out from the ‘horse’s mouth’ itself. Let the workers in each exchange/SSA approach each and every customer who has surrendered the connection and ask him what is the ‘mistake’ of BSNL or what is the reason for the disconnection. We will, thus,  get a real picture for this exodus. Some  disconnection may not be due to the lack of service, but to some other reasons also.

Number Two. Convince the subscriber that BSNL is ready sort out the issue so that surrender and migration is unnecessary. Tell the subscriber that he/she is our valuable customer and he/she should continue with us.

Number Third. Immediate action to be taken to see that the complaint of the subscriber is attended to and settled. No charge should be collected for the period of non-service (fault) and for re- connection. The presence of an officer of higher responsibility is necessary at this stage.

There is no doubt that at least a minimum 25% of the subscribers, who left us will certainly return to BSNL. They have been subscribers of BSNL for a long period and they will cherish to continue with the same, if good service is available.

The moot question is this? Whether the Management and the workers are prepared to meet the subscriber and sort out the issues, or simply sit and watch the decline. It will be suicidal.

An energetic, subscriber-focused mindset is required followed with swift action. Are we ready for the same?

We have to take up the challenge. We have to bring BSNL to its past glory! Let us start immediately! No time to spare or waste. Immediate action will save many connections.

Independence Day, Korea

North Korea and South Korea celebrated their 70th anniversary of Independence Day on 16th August 2015, separately. It was on this day that Korea got free from the subjugation under Japan, after its utter defeat in the II World War.

There was certain proposals to hold the day together, but due to certain differences, it could not take place. North Korea is a Communist Country and South Korea is very closely connected with US.
