Net Neutrality, TRAI

It is one of the biggest social campaign India has seen in recent times.  After the TRAI called  for an open discussion on the question of Net-Neutrality, more than 10 lakh e-mails have been received by TRAI that net-neutrality should not be compromised and the proposals to allow internet providers to charge for special schemes etc. can not be allowed.

This is a good response. The proposals against net-neutrality being thought about cannot be allowed.

World book day

23rd April is being observed as “World Book Day” for the last many years internationally. It was decided by UNESCO in 1995 to celebrate the day to honour many well known writers  as it is, ‘according to the Gregorian calendar, the birth and death anniversaries of the William Shakespeare, Vladimir Nabokov, Manuel Mejía Vallejo; death anniversaries of the Miguel de Cervantes (died on 22nd of April and buried on 23rd of April), Josep Pla, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega and birth anniversaries of the Manuel Mejía Vallejo, Maurice Druon and Halldór Laxness”.

The day was observed as World Book Day even earlier, in some countries, but it became international, after UNESCO took the decision.

Every year a theme is decided for the day. The theme for 2015 is “Read the World.”

Farmers’ Suicides – Government insensitive

Farmers' suicide

Thousands of farmers in Maharashtra, A.P., Rajasthan and other states have ended their lives due to extreme poverty, crop damage, huge loans and other difficulties. Though the continued governments assure support to the farmers, nothing is being done to ameliorate their hardships. The suicide of a farmer from Rajasthan in Delhi during the AAP meeting yesterday,is the latest.

“India lives in villages” is an old saying. That India is dying. Farmers are committing suicides. Prolonged discussion in Parliament and channels are not the solution. It is not a matter for scoring political advantage. If India has to live, immediate, determined and effective action is required. The Government has to act. All the political parties should deal with this issue as they deal with at the time of natural calamities, foreign aggression etc.

There is no time to be lost. Act on fast track.

About 19,000 tea workers of 14 tea gardens of Duncan Industries Limited in Terai and Dooars areas blockaded NH 31 for eight hours today in support of various demands, including payment of two months’ salaries.

Police said the tea workers launched the demonstration at 7 am at Birpara, which held up traffic in the Dooars area.

The workers demanded payment of salaries, which they claimed was due to them for two months, besides gratuity and provident fund.

They also alleged that they had not received rations for two months. (PTI)

In a shocking incident, Com.C.K.Mathivanan, Circle Secretary, NFTE and Chairman of Forum, Chennai Circle, has been murderously attacked with a 3-4 feet sword by one disgruntled employee (J.Stalin, RM) of the CGM(O) on 22nd April, the second day of the strike. PROVIDENT FUND INTEREST RATE 2015-16 FIXED AT 8.7%

MINISTRY OF FINANCE

Government Decides to Fix Interest Rates at 8.7% for General Provident Fund(GPF) and other Similar Funds Including Special Deposit Scheme, 1975(SDS,1975) for Non-Government Provident, Superannuation and Gratuity Funds for the Financial Year 2015-16.

It was decided by the Government to link the interest rates of State PFs (General Provident Fund and other similar funds) including Special Deposit Scheme, 1975 (SDS, 1975) for Non-Government Provident, Superannuation and Gratuity Funds for the FY 2015-16 to Public Provident Fund (PPF) rates. In pursuance of that decision, the Government has decided to fix the rates 8.7% per annum applicable to the following:-

  • The General Provident Fund (Central Services).
  • The Contributory Provident Fund (India).
  • The All India Service Provident Fund.
  • The State Railway Provident Fund.
  • The General Provident Fund (Defence Services).
  • The Indian Ordnance Provident Fund.
  • The Indian Ordnance Factories Workmen’s Provident Fund.
  • The Indian Naval Dockyard Workmen’s Provident Fund.
  • The Defence Services Officers Provident Fund.
  • The Armed Forces Personnel Provident Fund.
  • The rate of interest is applicable to the above funds w.e.f. 1st April, 2015 and until further orders.

Recently, the Government had kept the interest rates for PPF and other Small Savings Schemes intact.  However, interest rates for 5 year Senior citizen Saving Scheme and Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme have been increased from 9.2 to 9.3% and 9.1 to 9.2% respectively, keeping in view the commitment of the Government towards the welfare of the girl child and the senior citizens.

BSNL Issue in Parliament.

BSNL Strike Issue raised by Hon’ble MP Sri Sankar Prasad Datta(CPIM –Tripura West) in Lok Sabha on 22.4.2015, under Special Mention, during zero hour

SHRI SANKAR PRASAD DATTA (TRIPURA WEST):

Hon. Speaker, Madam, all of us know that people of the country are concerned about the BSNL employees who are on strike for the last two days, yesterday and today. What is their demand? Their demand is for the survival of the BSNL. Their main demand is to save the BSNL. It is a PSU, Public Sector Undertaking. The BSNL employees are demanding to save the BSNL. They have 20-point demands. We know that earlier when the BSNL was started, there were 3.5 lakh employees. In the meantime, 1.4 lakh employees have retired. (d2/1315/vr/sk) At present, the BSNL is having 2.25 lakh employees. BSNL was a profit making body upto 2007 and near about 48,000 had been profited by BSNL. That is why, the employees of BSNL are demanding that no merger should be done with MTNL. Their other demands are: vacant posts of Directors should be filled up; refund of spectrum charges to the tune of Rs.6,700 crore should be done; free spectrum should be allotted to BSNL and there should be a recruitment drive for filling up of vacant posts in BSNL. With these words, I conclude my speech and hope that the Government will look into the issues pertaining to the BSNL employees. Thus, it would save the BSNL and save the nation.
HON. SPEAKER: S/Shri Adv. Joice George, P.K. Biju, Jitendra Chaudhury, A. Sampath, and P. Karunakaran are allowed to associate with ==Shri Shankar Prasad Datta.             ( This is meant that the other Members of Parliament mentioned above also has sought the permission of the speaker to raise the same issue and it is also recorded).

Forum expresses its thanks to all these MPs.
