CMD BSNL, market share

Com.V.A.N.Namboodiri, Convener Forum and President BSNLCCWF met Shri Anupam Shrivastava, CMD BSNL today, 19-03-2015, and discussed the following:

First of all, Com.Namboodiri expressed his happiness that BSNL is considered as the 10th biggest company with maximum assets.

1. Starting of WiFi in cities and other important places in co-ordination with the Corporations/government: As agreement has been made between the NDMC New Delhi and Indus Towers for providing WiFi in Delhi, BSNL can start providing the same with co-ordination with the Corporations and government. CMD stated that already such proposals are being mooted out in some circles. That will be processed.

2. Reduced Market Share of BSNL: Com. Namboodiri  as per the latest statistics, many of the circles are far below even the average market share of BSNL. Urgent steps are required to improve the position. CMD stated that urgent action is being taken to improve the position.

3. Implementation of labour laws for the casual contract workers: Com. Namboodiri pointed out the non-payment of minimum wages, non-implementation of EPF, ESI etc. Specifically he mentioned about the problem in Haldwani in Utterakhand where workers are retrenched for demanding minimum wage etc. CMD assured he will look in to all the matters connected with the same.

maruti, victimisation

Criminal cases were filed against 148 Maruti workers against strike and some unhappy incidents in Maruti Suzuki company two years back. All the workers are in jail due to the connivance of Maruti company and Haryana Govt. It is only a few days back that some 77 and another 2 workers got bail.

The Haryana Government even did not recognise the union which is having huge majority with them. The government was harassing the workers and put them in jail to please the MNC.

Now one more information has come. The Haryana Government had engaged top and Senior Advocate K.T.S.Tulsi  against the workers and paid him Rs. 5.20 crore as legal fee, in violation of existing rule. It was during the earlier government. The new government is reported to order a probe in the matter.

NDMC signs Letter of Intent with Indus Towers for Wi-Fi in Delhi – Why not with MTNL?

Delhi, WiFi

The New Delhi Municipal Corporation has signed a Letter of Intent with Indus Towers, a joint venture of Airtel, Vodafone and Idea, for providing Wifi in New Delhi. It is stated that about 18,500 poles will have to be erected for the purpose.

Though MTNL is the telecom PSU operating in Delhi, the Letter of intent is given to private companies. In our opinion, the NDMC should entrust the work with MTNL.

Put a stop to the sale of PSUs

privatisation, sale of PSU shares

The government is proposing to sell shares of BHEL, NMDC, NALCO, ONGC, PFC, REC etc. in the financial year 2015-16 to mop up about Rs.41,000 crores. These sales are nothing but handing over of the nation’s assets to the corporate bigwigs for a portion of their real worth. There has been huge corruption in the sale of shares earlier and it will be there in future also. These sales of share are nothing but the steps towards privatisation

Handing over the assets of the nation to the corporate should stop.

Photo in ballot paper

The decision of the Election Commission to put photos of candidates in the ballot paper is timely and necessary. This will stop the confusion being created by the candidates with the same or similar name. This scheme will be implemented from the elections being held after 1 May 2015.

Com. EMS

EMS19th March 2015 is the 17th death anniversary of Com. E.M.S.Namboodiripad, former General Secretary of CPI(M) and  the first Chief Minister of Kerala State.

Com. EMS, as he was respectfully called, was one of the finest intellectuals of the century, in addition being an ideologue as well as a practical Communist. His first Ministry of 1957  passed the Land Bill which benefited lakhs of landless in Kerala. The Education Bill was another feather in his crown.

Com.EMS has got close connection with the  P and T Trade Union movement. It was he, who inaugurated the All India Conference of E.III Union in Thiruvananthapuram in 1994 in which I was elected as the General Secretary. We remembeer the great contribution he has given to the Communist movement.

Red Salute to Com. EMS on this 17th death anniversary!
