Ranaghat (WB), Mar 21 A team of National Commission for Women (NCW) today visited the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in Nadia district, where a septuagenarian nun was allegedly gang raped, and slammed the state govt as no arrest has been made in the case even after a week.
Led by NCW member Shamina Shafiq, chairperson of the enquiry committee in the nun gangrape case, a three-member team talked to the convent authorities for over an hour.
“We are concerned as there is no arrest. There is footage available, so they should have been arrested. We will talk to the police,” Shafiq said.
Asked if it was the fault of the state administration, she said, “Definitely it is the fault of the state.”
“It is a very unfortunate incident, it should not have happened,” Shafiq said.
No arrest have been made in connection with the March 14 incident though 17 persons have been detained. CCTVs installed in the school captured photos of the accused. (PTI)
