An era has passed

14 Saturday Feb 2015

With the death of Com. S.K.Vyas, one more of the  remaining leaders of the great era of historical struggles of the 1960-1970s have passed away. On the one side, sustained struggles against the government on the justified demands and on the otherside  internal struggles for the correct trade union policy. We  remember Coms.  K.G.Bose, N.J.Iyer, K.Adinarayana,  S.K.Vyas, Moni Bose and other leaders in this respect who had dedicated themselves to the service of workers and sacrificed every thing. I am fortunate that I could work and get personal advice and guidance from all these stalwarts. They are the shining red stars in the history of the CG employees movement. Their lives and ideals will certainly guide us in our future activities.

Parliament March on 25 February 2015

13 Friday Feb 2015

All arrangements for organising Parliament March on 25 February by BSNL employees as per call of Forum is being done. The wall posters with the demands are being put on the websites of the unions which can be got printed by circle secretaries in the regional  language. Central Trade Union leaders and Members of Parliament have been invited to address the Parliament March.
Forum has decided to present the Memorandum of Demands to the Prime Minister with one crore signatures from the public. While some circles have informed about number of signatures collected, there is no report from most circles. Approaching the public, explaining our demands and getting their signature in the Memorandum is a serious task. It has to be done urgently.
Our comrades should take this task with out any further delay.
SAVE BSNL, SAVE NATION

With deep grief and extreme sorrow, it is intimated that Com. S.K.Vyas, the legendary leader of the Central Govt. Employees and   Pensioners, is no more. He passed away at about 08.20 PM today, 13 February 2015, at  a Jaipur hospital, where he was admitted a few days back after a massive heart attack. He was recovering, but all of a sudden,  the situation worsened and he passed away. He was 85 years.
When, myself along with CGE leaders met him on 7 February at the hospital ICU, we were happy to know that he was recovering. But to the sorrow of all, he left us.
His funeral will take place at Jodhpur tomorrow.
Com.Vyasji was the Secretary General of the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees and workers since 1967 for more than four decades. He was holding the posts of Secretary General of both BCPC and NCCPA, Federations of Pensioners Associations till his end.
His death is an irreparable loss to the entire CGE and Pensioners movement.
My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and comrades.
Red Salute to Com.S.K.Vyas!

Stop Selling Airports to Private companies

Airport privatisation

The move of the central government to privatise Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur and Ahmedabad has been strongly opposed by the Airport Authority Employees Union. The Airport Employees organised massive protest demonstrations in front of AAI offices demanding that the privatisation move should be dropped.

It is to be mentioned here that all these airports which are now managed by the Airport Authority of India has been modernised with improved infrastructure by spending more than Rs. 50,000 crore. There is no need as such for further modification or spending money at present. The government’s move is only to favour private companies to get the benefit from running the airports. All these four airports are profitable. There are many airports under AAI which are loss making and the same is compensated by the profit making airports.

The Government has already privatised the most profitable airports in the country, viz. Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The air-travellers are compelled to pay airport charges, which was not there when these were managed by AAI. Everything in the airports like tea, coffee, stationary, parking  etc. have become more costly after privatisation.  This will  repeat in the new privatised airports also.

The privatisation of airports is completely against the interests of workers, travellers and the country. It is only to maximise the profit of the private companies  by acquiring the well maintained airports. Strong opposition should come from the people and opposition political parties.
