Government closing down 6 Central PSUs

Closure of PSUs

One of the most important agenda of the Modi Government, it seems, is disinvestment, privatisation and closure of the Public Sector Units in the country. One after another almost all the PSUs are being disinvested. And now the closure has started. 6 loss making PSUs are going to be closed. They are: HMT Watches, HMT Chinar Watch, HMT Bearings, Hindustan Cables and Tungabhadrea Steel Limited and Hindustan Photo Films.

The policy of both UPA and NDA governments are to privatise all the PSUs.  The method is first to make them in loss through various methods and then close them. This is what is happening to these 6 companies. They were good, profit making PSUs which helped the nation’s growth. Now they will be sold as waste.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister, while inaugurating ITI declared that ‘the Public Sectors are the temples of Modern India’. Now the declaration of former Manmohan Singh Government was and present Modi Government, is one and the same:” WE WILL CONVERT ALL THESE MODERN TEMPLES IN TO CEMETERIES”.

Are the people of the country, the working class, going to accept this non-sense? No. The l fight for the correct policies and strengthening of PSUs will continue.

AIPRPA, Pensioners

Today, I had the chance to attend the Central Managing Committee meeting of the All India Postal and RMS Pensioners Association( AIPRPA), which was held at North Avenue, New Delhi. The meeting was presided over by Com.D.K.Rahate, President of the Association. Com. K.Raghavendran, General Secretary and Com. Rajendra Prasad, Reception Committee welcomed all. The leaders were all received with garlands.

In my inaugural speech, I mentioned about the problems of the Pensioners, the memorandum submitted jointly by Pensioners Associations and also the TU (P and R) Congress held at Barcelona, Spain. I also greeted the house on behalf of the AIBDPA. Com.S.K.Vyas, veteran leader of the Central Government Employees and Secretary General of BCPC, spoke about the organisation and also about the details of the discussion with VII CPC by BCPC. Com. Seethalaxmi, General Secretary, P-IV also addressed.

I am very happy that the AIPRPA has organised its units in most of the circles, within a few months of its formation. Congratulations to the leaders and workers of AIPRPA!

Delhi Elections, Left Parties

The following seven Left Parties will jointly contest in the Delhi State Elections: CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML)-Liberation, Forward Block, SUCI (Communist),RSP, Socialist Party-India.The seats to be contested will be decided later.

This is a good sign. Instead of dividing the votes of the Left, let it be combined together.

Cuba - US

In preparation for the restoration of the diplomatic relations between Cuba and US, new travel and trade rules between the US and Cuba will take effect from today, 16th January 2015 according to  US and Cuban officials.

Measures include allowing US citizens to use credit cards in Cuba and for US businesses to export some technologies.

Americans will be able to take home up to $100 (£66) in alcohol and tobacco from Cuba. Correspondents say it means the US ban on Cuban cigars is over. this will certainly help Cuban economy.

Along with this all the US prisoners in Cuba also are released. The move implements last month’s agreement to re-establish ties severed since 1961.

Let us hope that the diplomatic relations will be restored soon.

It is reported that more than 100 dead bodies have been found floating in the Ganges, near Unnao in  U.P. The bodies are in completely in mutilated and bad shape as the death might have occurred many days earlier and even the gender of the persons could not be ascertained. The bodies were found after the water level receded in the river.

Whether it was murder or whether it was accident or what is the reason is not known for so many dead bodies. The government, central / state should order an inquiry immediately to find out what happened that so many valuable lives have been lost.

Central Trade Unions call for Satyagraha on 26th February

CTU, Satyagraha on 26-02-2015

The 11 Central Trade Unions have called upon all the workers  in the country to organise one day Sathyagraha all over India on 26th February 2015 protesting against the ant-worker policies of the government. It also called upon all the national federations of central/state government unions, PSU unions etc. to organise the same.

The statement by the Central Trade Unions viz. BMS, INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, UTUC and LPF strongly opposed the recent ordinances issued by the Central Government in an undemocratic way for auction of coal blocks paving way for denationalisation of coal sector, increasing FDI in Insurance sector from 26% to 49%, acquisition of land without the consent of the farmers etc. to favour and  promote the interests of the corporates. The Government is also proposing to bring FDI in Postal, Defence and other strategic sectors.

But at the same time, none of the 10 point demands raised by the Central trade Unions have been considered or any decisions taken by the government. Minimum wage is not fixed as per the 15th ILC. Scheme workers not accorded the status of workers. Ceilings on Bonus, Gratuity, provident fund are not removed.

It is under these circumstances that the 11 Central Trade Unions have decided to continue the struggle and aggravate it.

Let us  make the agitational programme and Satyagraha on 26th February 2015 a great success.
