Life Certificate for Pensioners

The Central Government is proposing to introduce an Adhar based Digital Certification system through which the pensioners will be able to submit life certificate through online.

At present pensioners, Central, state, PSUs and other pensioners are required to submit a Life Certificate to the Post office, Bank etc., from where the pensioner receives the pension, in the month of November every year. For this, they have to present themselves before the concerned authority. This results in much hardship to the pensioners, who are ill or who are away in other places, foreign countries etc.

The present system, when introduced will benefit many pensioners. But the infrastructure including the bio-metrics and concerned software.

It is reported that at present there are about 50 Lakh Central Pensioners, 50 lakh State pensioners, 25 lakh Defence Pensioners as also lakhs of PSU pensioners.

Modi Government moves to disinvest AAI and Pawan Hans, Privatise Air India

AAI, Air india, Pawan Hans

The Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathy Raju has stated that both the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Pawan Hans Helecopter limited, both PSUs, will be disinvested shortly. The privatisation of Air India is also being considered.

Selling of the family silver has become the main agenda for the Nodi Government. Already the profitable airports like Delhi and Mumbai has been privatised. Aggressive plans were made by the UPA Government to privatise Chennai and Kolkata airports, but because of the general elections it was kept pending. Now the NDA government is planning to privatise not only these two airports, but many more.

The Airports Authority of India which controls the airports will be having only loss-making airports after some time. In the case of Air India, the Civil Aviation Ministers, one after another has been acting on behalf of the private airlines and against Air India to destroy it. And new minister has stated that the loss making Air India needs to be privatised.

Selling the family silver at throwaway prices ! Nothin less. Oppose and defeat these anti-national moves.

Crorepati Government

The Prime Minister may have been a tea supplier and come from a poor family. But the Cabinet he presides is a cabinet of crorepatis.

According to the analysis by Association of Democratic Reforms and National Election Watch, 59, out of 64 central ministers are crorepatis. The average asset of these ministers come to Rs. 18.48 crore according to the report. Y.S.Chaudary, Rajya Sabha M.P. from AP, who has now been elevated to Minister and who is the richest, is having an asset of Rs. 189.69 crore followed by Jayant Sinha from Jharkhand with 47.37 crores.

Some of the ministers newly appointed are having serial criminal cases against them.

These crorepatis will save the nation and the people ? The answer is clear and loud – a big NO.

AIC of BSNLEU

Since there was a large agenda to be covered and the time was short, the Delegates session started by about 0900 hours. Delegates were tired due to continued sitting and the daily journey in bus from accommodation to Conference site and back, but that did not show in their faces and movements. They were preparing for struggles for the revival of BSNL as also for their own economic demands. During the 3 days about 87 delegates including Circle Secretaries participated in the discussion. Resolutions on important issues were adopted after discussion. Those included on the Revival of BSNL, the demands of the workers, Communal Harmony, on the strikes on 27th November called by the JAC of Non-Executive unions, Strike of the casual and contract workers on 27th November, Agitation being planned by the Central Trade Unions etc. etc.

Certain Amendments to the Union Constitution were presented, and after detailed discussion, adopted.

General Secretary, Com. P.Abhimanyu in his summing up, replied to the criticisms raised, and also spoke on the issues to be tackled and the struggles to be made successful. After the summing up, the report and the audited accounts, presented by the Treasurer, Com. S.C.Bhattacharjee were adopted by the house.

Election of Office-Bearers

The Conference unanimously elected office -bearers with Com. VAN Namboodiri as Patron, Com. Balbir Singh as President, Com. P.Abhimanyu as General Secretary and Com. Swapan Chakraborty as Dy. General Secretary. The house greeted the newly elected office bearers with great applause.

The four day All India Conference of BSNL Employees Union from 6th to 9th November 2014 thus ended at about 1930 hours amidst shouting of Inquilab Zindabad and other slogans after declaration by the President.

Kolkata conference will be remembered for the systematic and disciplined conduct of the Conference as also the hard and dedicated work of the Reception Committee which had to face several challenges in shifting the conference site and other connected difficulties, which they successfully dealt with.

Let us hope that BSNLEU will continue to lead the BSNL workers for a better future both for the BSNL and for its workers.

Procession and Massive Rally

Kolkata is a big city, once capital of India till 1911, where big and long processions are a regular feature for many years. But after the Trinamool government has taken over, it is difficult for other parties and trade unions to organise processions and jathas. As such, the reception Committee took prior permission for holding procession and rally in the city on 6th November 2014.
Since the procession and rally are to be held in the city and the AIC is being held on the outskirts of the city, buses were arranged to take the delegates from the Conference site to the Telecom Factory, from where the procession will start. Hundreds of delegates and observers participated in the long procession which went through the city roads and reached Rani Rashmony Avenue, where the rally will be held. Another huge jatha by the local BSNL employees had already reached the avenue. V.A.N.Namboodiri, Animesh Mitra, Sahdev Biswal and other leaders led this jatha.
The large area of the Rashmoni Avenue in the centre of the city was full with workers. The road on the side of the avenue was also full. The stage was erected high so that workers in the backside also can see state and the speakers.

The Rally started at 1530 hours as scheduled. Com. V.A.N.Namboodiri presided. Com. Animesh Mitra, Dy. GS and Jt. Convener, Reception Committee welcomed all. Com. Tapan Sen, MP, General Secretary CITU, inaugurated the rally. He called upon the workers to resist the onslaught on the working class by the new NDA government. He also pointed out the necessity to continue sustained struggles for achieving the demands of the workers. Coms. Shymal Chakraborty, President, CITU, W.Bengal, P.Abhimanyu, GS, Saibal Sen Gupta and Animesh Mitra, Circle Secretaries also spoke.

Cultural Programmes

Cultural programmes were organised at the Conference site in the evening, which was much appreciated by the delegates.
