SBI Sells NPA of Rs. 3,590 Crores

Sale of NPA, SBI

Amidst severe criticism about the increasing bad loans of PSU Banks, SBI has sold Rs. 3,590 crores NPA (Non-Performing Assets – bad loans) to Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARC). These include mainly security bonds as also a small part of about Rs. 241 crores. Another Rs. 1,892 crores loans have been written off.

There are certain important issues connected with the NPA or bad loans. Most of the NPA are due from corporates and big business. it can be said that there are very few companies including the big corporates who are not in the list of defaulters. No serious action is taken by the banks for collection of the same and later they are written off. But the banks are very strict with the small creditors from whom they collect the loans with mighty efficiency. Of course the banks may be reluctant to annoy the big guns. Secondly they may have illegal connections with the big corporates in one way or other.

The Bank Employees’ Associations and Unions have been focussing these points and demanding the managements to strictly collect the loans from the biggies.

CPI(M), Sri Lanka, Tamil issues

Chennai, May 25 Amid strong opposition from all quarters to Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi’s invite to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for his swearing-in, CPI(M) today said the Centre should utilise this occasion for resolving the Lankan Tamils issue.
“There has been no investigation into the alleged human rights violations during the final phase of war (against LTTE in 2009). Also no steps had been taken for devolution of powers in Tamil areas…”, CPI-M state General Secretary G Ramakrishnan said in a statement issued here.
The Central Government should utilise the visit of Rajapaksa to Delhi tomorrow and “exert more pressure” on him to solve the Tamils issue, he added. (Courtesy: PTI)

000 posts, 4, My blog

When I was publishing the last post, I suddenly found out that I have crossed 4,000. In fact that was the 4,009th post. This will be the 4,010th.
I have benefitted much after I started the blog, since I have to read and learn about what I have to post. It was something of an education.
And the comrades, friends and well-wishers who have been visiting the sites have been a good support since many of them posted comments, advices, in a very few cases criticism etc. and that too have helped me in understanding more of the issues.

I take this opportunity to thank all of you for the support, advice, appreciation and criticism given to me.

Ambassador Car becomes History

Ambassador Car

It is reported that the production of ‘Ambassador’ car which dominated the Indian Roads for decades may be stopped shortly. The Hindustan Motors, which produces the Ambassador, has stated that due to sales going down for years, resulting in reduced production which has reached an all time level of 6,000 for some years, its production will be stopped.

It was the car used by the govt. departments and officers. In Kolkata and W.Bengal, where the Birla’s factory is situated producing Ambassador, almost all of the taxis are Ambassadors. All this is going to change. In a few years Ambassador is going to be part of history.

It is one sector, where more modern and new products are continuously arriving. Despite the fact that India companies are there producing good cars, now the trend is to own costly foreign cars. After Ambassador, by 1980s, small car Maruti has become the favourite. That situation is also changing. Now the upper and even middle class favour bigger cars and that too foreign. VolksWagen, Skoda, Ferrari, Mercedes Benz and similar costly cars are taking over.

While lakhs and lakhs of cars are purchased in each city and town, there is a huge deficit for Public Transports which are used by the common people. The services are being reduced and the charges are being increased. However, increasing the public transport and reducing individual vehicles are the only change to reduce the acute congestion in the city roads.

‘The Bolivian Diary’, The Revolutionary Campaign of the Greatest Revolutionary , Che Guevara

Che Guevara, The Bolivian Diary

“Every drop of blood spilled in a land under whose flag one was not born is experience gathered by the survivor to be applied later in the struggle for liberation of one’s own country. And every people that liberates itself is a step in the battle for the liberation of one’s own people.”
“Let the flag under which we fight be the sacred cause of the liberation of humanity, so that to die under the colors of Vietnam, Venezuela, Guatemala, Laos, Guinea, Colombia, Bolivia…. to mention only the current scenes of armed struggle… will be equally glorious and desirable for a Latin American, An Asian, An African, and even a European.” – Che Guevara
download
The Bolivian Diary is the daily notes written by Che Guevara, the eternal revolutionary, during his guerilla campaign from 7th November 1966 to 7th October 1967 for the freedom of Bolivia, in which he met his end at the hands of the Bolivian Military. He was shot dead on 8th October 1967 at La Higuera, at a school in a mountainous terrain, after being captured.
Che could have escaped, but he wanted his other comrades to be safe and fought to the last. He was captured since his gun was broken, the ammunition was over and he was seriously wounded. While Che and the Guerillas had released the soldiers captured by them after lecturing them about the revolution and taking away their guns, ammunition and uniforms, the military never showed the same respect or treatment to Che or the Guerillas.
After the victory of Cuban revolution in 1959, Che Guivera, comrade-in-arms to Fidel Castro, President of Cuba, in the guerilla campaign and a Minister in the Cuban Government, left to Bolivia incognito to fight for the freedom of Bolivia. He was an eternal revolutionary and was in continuous warfare against dictatorship and capitalism. The Bolivian Diary reveals the steel like resolution of the comrade, who steadfastly fought and led the guerillas and ambushed the military numbering many folds more than them in several ambushes. It is really surprising how in the day and night fight and campaign through the densely forests he found time to note the developments. Of course, he was an exceptionally revolutionary comrade.
Reading the ‘Bolivian Diary’ itself was an experience. It has inspired millions and millions of toiling masses throughout the world to fight back and participate in revolutionary struggles.

78.2% IDA Merger, BSNL Pensioners

All India BSNL DOT Pensioners Association, the mighty organisation of the BSNL DOT Pensioners has called upon the pensioners to organise massive Dharna / Rally /Demonstrations on 5th June 2014 against the delay in issue of orders on granting 78.2% IDA merger for the BSNL Pensioners. Savingram will be sent to the Communications Minister and DOT by all SSA Units of AIBDPA demanding early settlement.
It is almost one year since the orders were issued for the BSNL employees. There is no justification for the DOT to deny or delay the same to the pensioners. It is a complete injustice. Not only the pensioners, but the regular employees and their organisations should also protest against this injustice.

The Savingram to be sent to the Communications Minister / Secretary DOT is given below:

PROTEST UNJUSTIFIED AND UNWARRANTED DELAY IN GRANTING 78.2% IDA MERGER TO BSNL PENSIONERS. REQUEST IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION AND EARLY SETTLEMENT.

CHQ BSNLEU has called upon its units to participate jointly with AIBDPA in the Protest Dharna / Demonstration /Rally /Meeting on 5th June.

Make the programmes a big success.

Move for FDI in Railways

FDI in Railways

The proposal for 100% FDI in Railways, which was prepared at the time of the UPA II government, is reported to be presented to the new government by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The FDI will be in high speed train systems, suburban corridors, high speed tracks and freight lines connecting port and mines. It is to be noted that these are the sections from which Railways get much revenue. Here also the UPA II government’s policy of gifting the Corporates the profitable side and retaining with the government the losing side is in clear evidence.

There is no need for FDI in Railways and it should be completely opposed.
