Com.V.A.N.Namboodiri, President, BSNLCCWF, had a detailed discussion with Shri A.K.Sanghal,GM(Admn), BSNL on the issues of the contract labour engaged in BSNL and the brutal exploitation of these toiling workers.
Com. Namboodiri explained in detail about the non-implementation of Govt./BSNL orders on minimum wage, EPF, ESI etc. by the contractor / local officers. In many places, even half of the minimum wage is not paid. EPF and ESI are also not implemented.Orders of the government as well as that of CMD BSNL are completely violated and put in to the dustbin. He demanded that serious and thorough action is to be taken to ensure justice to the contract workers engaged in BSNL.
The GM (Admn) assured that necessary action will be taken to get the orders implemented and minimum wages and social security measures ensured.
Sir, I Mohammed Zakir ,Contract Worker under DE Transmission Maintenance OFC STR Kurnool, wants to highlight some point’s which are used in the Tender Documents while Notice Inviting Tender. Our Organisation is using the words like “*TEMPORARY NATURE AT WORK, UPKEEP SERVICES, UNSKILLED NATURE & WATCH AND WARD*” where the contract workers are working from the last ten years and above, at least most of the workers are engaged in the services are having minimum five years service and above, if the engaged service men don’t have the experience to work in the field then we have to be categorised in the unskilled nature. Most of the service men are having experience in the field then why should not we categorised in the SKILLED nature. We came to know that one LABOUR Officer informed that this type of type of words mentioning in the tender document i.e;*TEMPORARY NATURE AT WORK, UPKEEP SERVICES, UNSKILLED NATURE & WATCH AND WARD*” is unfair, he reveals that temporary or other words has to be used when there is work which has to be carried out for a limited period, but our BSNL is using the above words from the starting.
So please kindly think and look into this matter. I am waiting for the same.
Dear Comrade,
This and other similar issues have already been taken by the union. The major work is at the local level. Yu have to build and strengthen the union. Since you have not given your address etc., I do not know in which state you are working. Contact the BSNLEU leaders in your place and form the BSNL Casual and Contract Workers union, if it is not already formed. Strengthen the union, put the demands for the management and inform us. With out a strong union and struggles the exploitation can not be stopped.
