Delhi Govt. Contractworkers, Regularisation

One more poll assurance of the AAP is going to be implemented. More than one lakh contract workers in Delhi Government are going to be made permanent shortly. The High Level 13 Member Committee appointed to look in to the matter has been given time to furnish their recommendations within one month.
It is stated by the government that the workers at present being engaged will not be retrenched.

The decision is hailed by the workers. The regularisation of contract workers in Delhi will enthuse the workers in BSNL also, who have already demanded regularisation and is fighting for the same.

TRAI Recommends Spectrum Trading

The recommendation of the TRAI to allow the private companies to trade and sell the spectrum will be considered by Empowered Group of Ministers(EGoM) on Telecom headed by Finance minister P.Chidambaram. This has been the demand of the private telecom companies, which was accepted by the TRAI and forwarded to DoT. TRAI Chairman Rahul Kullar had met the telecom corporates on this issue and accepted their demand. This recommendation will now be considered by the EGoM, which is meeting on 27th January.
It is significant that the issue is being finalised on the eve of the spectrum action. If it is allowed there will be a lot of adjustments and formation of cartels to take undue benefit out of the decision.
It should be remembered that even when there was no provision for spectrum sharing, the private companies have indulged in the same. But no serious action wa taken against the culprits. On the contrary, the private companies are going to be allowed the spectrum trading.
All these have serious consequences for the PSUs BSNL and MTNL.

Haryana Contract Workers on struggle for Minimum Wage

The more than 20 lakh contract workers in the Haryana state are on struggle path to get the state minimum wage increased. The minimum wage in Haryana is one of the lowest in the Northern states. While Delhi is having a minimum wage of Rs. 8,085, Gujarat Rs. 6.637, Punjab Rs. 6,240, and Maharashtra Rs. 5,800, the minimum wage in Haryana is only Rs. 5,342.(Of course, even these minimum wages are not being paid in many sectors through various dubious means).
The Minimum wages are to be refixed after every five years, but this has not been done in Haryana. Haryana Government has a record of anti-worker profile, which could be understood from the fact that how brutally it dealt with the strike in Maruti Suzuki in 2012. More than 100 workers are still jail on fabricated charges. The workers have gone on strike for equal pay for equal work and regularisation of contract workers. The managements in the Gurgaon-Mansoor area which are mainly auto sectors, with the factories of Suzuki and Hero Honda and other ancillary factories are notorious for their attack on the workers.
A meeting of the trade unions in the area have met and is planning to start serious agitation for improving the minimum wages. We support the fully justified struggle.

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank today decided to withdraw all currency notes issued prior to 2005, including Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations, after March 31 in a move apparently aimed at curbing black money and fake currencies.

“After March 31, 2014, it (RBI) will completely withdraw from circulation all bank notes issued prior to 2005. From April 1, 2014, the public will be required to approach banks for exchanging these notes,” the RBI said in a statement.

The public can easily distinguish the currency notes issued before 2005 as they do not have the year of printing on reverse side. (PTI)

Haryana State employees strike

New Delhi, January 22: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions congratulates the state government employees of Haryana for their historic and massive three days’ strike, which commenced on 21st January 2014. The Haryana Road Transport workers started the strike on 20th January opposing privatisation of the public transport and demanding filling up of vacant posts. Through this joint strike the state government employees have not only raised the demands of the different segments of state government employees but also of the common people and the youth.

CITU strongly condemns the lathi charge and the arrest of thousands of the striking employees and warns the Haryana state government the struggle of the workers and employees on their genuine demands cannot be suppressed through such high handed and repressive measures.

CITU expresses its solidarity to the demands and the struggle of the state government employees of Haryana and demands the state government to immediately discuss with the organisations of the state government employees and resolve their demands amicably.

Pension contribution by BSNL to DOT – It should be on actual pay and not on maximum pay.

BSNL, DOT, Pension Contribution

The BSNL Management is paying pension contribution for all the BSNL absorbed employees to the DOT on the basis of the maximum of the pay scale. This should be only on the basis of the actual pay, but the Government has so far not agreed to this. The Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations has strongly demanded that the pension contribution should be only on the basis of actual pay.

You know how much BSNL has paid to the Govt. in 2012 and 2013? In 2011-2012 it was Rs. 1179.65 crore and in 2012-13 it is 916.41 crore. The reduction in the payment may be due to the large number of retirements ( about 15,000, mostly non-executives) as pension contribution need not be paid after retirement. But if the contribution is paid on the actual, the amount will still be reduced. We have to continue our efforts on this issue.

BSNLCCWF

The BSNLCCWF CEC Meeting has called for agitational programmes for settlement of long pending demands. The first programme is demonstration in front of SSA offices. The programme has to be successfully organised with the support and participation of BSNLEU.
Despite our continued efforts, still there are a few circles where the BSNLCCWF has not been formed. The same with many SSAs also.It is requested that BSNLEU Circle / District Secretaries should take the initiative to form the Union. This must be taken as an important target.
In this connection, it is to be remembered that last CEC meeting of BSNLEU has called upon to form BSNLCCWF in all the circles/Districts before the next CEC. Next CEC is going to be held on 7-9 February at Rajkot. Hence immediate action should be taken in the matter.
