May 20th is connected with two of the most cruel agents of  European countries who organised  voyages for establishing colonies for their country. Of course it was adventure, but the main aim was to expand the influence of their countries in the vast unchartered lands of America and the East.

One was Christopher Columbus, the Italian born, who travelled on behalf of the Spanish Kingdom and captured part of America and some of the Caribbean Islands. He died on 20th of May 1506, disgraced.

The other was Vasco da Gama, the sailor who organised voyages on behalf of Portugal. He was the first European to reach India by sea. He reached Calicut on 20th May 1498 and started trade. He visited India twice and initiated the plan for not only capturing the trade but the land also. He was given the title ‘Governor of India’ by Portugal.

How these explorers and voyagers  started colonisation which ended with the colonisation of India by British is history. It took centuries for the Indians to win freedom that too after suffering slavery and domination of the imperialists.

The imperialist  countries are now trying to enslave India through financial investments, FDI etc.  The Government of India, under the  liberalisation policy, is becoming a willing partner for the same. The MNC vultures like Walmart are already there waiting for a chance to expand its business in India, which will shatter the lives of crores of retailers and their families.

Can we be silent spectators for a second capture by the imperialists? No, Never! We have to fight them out with all our strength!
