The private telcos like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular have opposed the government’s move to implement National MNP ( Mobile Number Portability) which will allow subscribers to change shift their mobiles to another mobile operator nation-wide, without changing the number. MNP at circle level is already in operation.

The argument of the private companies are that the cost to make the technical changes are much more than the benefits that will accrue to the subscribers. They have already complained to the TRAI not to implement the same before conducting a cost-benefit analysis.
