a poem, Colour

I am giving below a poem written by an African Child and which has been nominated for the Best Poem of 2005. The pain of the child and the gross discrimination against the black are focussed in the poem.

COLOUR
When I born, I black;
When I grow up I black;
When I go in sun I black;
When I scared, I black;
When I sick, I black!
And when I die, I still black!!

And U white fellow?
When U born, U pink;
When u grow up, U white;
When U go in sun, you red;
When U cold, U blue;
When U scared, U yellow;
When U sick, U green;
When U die, U grey:
And U call me coloured!!!

No safety to women - SC

New Delhi, Jan 11 : The Supreme Court today expressed concern over the recent brutal gangrape and murder in Delhi saying there is no safety in the Capital as such incidents are happening repeatedly.
“There is no safety in the city and it has to come back,” a bench of justices K S Radhakrishnan and Dipak Misra said while pointing out that December 16 incident was not an isolated one and “it is being repeated in the city.”
The bench said it is concerned about providing safe environment for women so that they can live with dignity.
The bench made the remarks while hearing a PIL filed by a law student pleading with the court to pass direction for making the city safer for its citizens and for setting up a Criminal Injuries Compensation Board for the payment of compensation to victims of rape.
He also submitted that licence of vehicles be cancelled for violating Motor Vehicles Act.
The court said the bus owner should not be allowed to run buses on a route on which any of his buses violates law.
“We are more concerned about safe environment where women can work with honour and dignity and that must be restored,” the bench said while issuing notice to the Centre, the NCT government and the National Commission for Women asking them to file their response within two weeks.

20-21 February Strike

In the National Convention of Workers called by the 11 Central Trade Unions including CITU, AITUC, INTUC, BMS etc., call was given to organise Two Days Strike on 20-21 February 2013 against the anti-worker policies of the government and demanding settlement of the issues of the workers, especially in the unorganised sector.
The various National Federations, All India Unions etc. are preparing for the strike. BSNLEU has already decided to go on strike and started preparations. NFTE, FNTO, TEPU, BMS etc. have also decided to go on strike.
In an effort to mobilise the entire unions/associations and the workers in BSNL in this glorious strike to defend the rights of the workers, a meeting of all the Unions/Associations in BSNL is being organised at 1500 hours on 12th January 2013 by BSNLEU at the BSNLMS office. We are expecting that all the Unions/Associations in BSNL will participate and take appropriate decisions to join and make the strike a big success in BSNL.

Justice to be meted to Casual/Contract workers in BSNL

BSNL Casual and Contract labour

BSNLEU and BSNLCCWF have been continuously making maximum effors to ensure that the thousands of Casual and Contract labour who are engaged by BSNL through contractors are saved from the inhuman exploitation and justice meted out to them. BSNL Management has been compelled to issue orders on the various demands like payment of minimum wage, implementation of social security measures like EPF, ESI etc. But unfortunately these are not implemented in the field level causing undue hardship and loss to the casual-contract workers.
I met Shri A.K.Sanghi, GM(Admn), BSNL yesterday and told about the inhuman exploitation despite the clear cut orders of the BSNL Corporate office. I gave details of some circles and also informed about the agitation going on in many circles. He agreed to go through the same and take remedial measures.

BSNLEU - TEAN

Com.Tankalal Shreshta, Advisor to Telecom Employees Association of Nepal (TEAN) and Director, Nepal Telecommunications Corporation(NTC), returned to Kathmandu today evening by flight. I along with Com. Hari Om Sharma, comrade from NTR Delhi accompanied him to the International Airport and bade him a Warm Send-off. His scheduled visit to the BSNLEU office, Dada Ghosh Bhawan, could not materialise due to traffic jam and also since he had to reach the air-port in time. Although we could not get much time for mutual discussion since he had some urgent personal work, the visit strengthened the good relations between BSNLEU and TEAN.
