For Calcutta and for that matter India, 2nd January 1757 was a Black Day. It was on this day that the British occupied the city of Calcutta. In June 1757 Siraj ud-Daulah was defeated in the Plassey war in which Mir-Jaffer, the military leader of Siraj Ud-Daulah conspired with the British which resulted in the defeat. Since 1776 till India got Independence Calcutta was in the hands of British. It was the capital till the same was shifted to Delhi in 1912.
Calcutta handed over to British 256 years back.

Dear Comrade, Instead of 2nd January 1857, it should be 1757 when Sirajuddulla was defeated by East India Company Led by Lord Karjon, who was assisted by few traitors named as Mirjaffar, Jagatseth and Raidurllov, who were the Prime Minister, Finance Minister and a Feudal Lord respectively under Sirajuddulla. Just after 100 years of the same the sepoy mutiny took place in 1857 against Company’s Regime after which East India Companies rule was ended when British Parliament took over the charge of India and started to Govern India through the decisions of British Government and also nominated few Indian Nationals in British Parliament to represent Indians. British Government on taking the charge offerred some economic reliefs to Indians at initial stages and introduced English Education system in India so that a few Indians (obviously from Jaminder’s or King’s families) can pass ICS Examn and be the administrators on behalf of British. The capital of India was shifted from Calcutta to Delhi perhaps after People’s movements against Division of Bengal which was started in 1905 and was ended in 1911 when Britishers gave up that plan.
The year is corrected as 1757
