Bhagat Singh - Lahore - Memorial

There is a very happy and inspiring news from Pakistan. On the 105th birthday of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the well-known Shadman Chowk in the city of Lahore has been renamed as “Bhagat Singh Chowk” in memory of the great martyr. The Lahore Jail, where Shaheed Bhagat Singh was interned which was situated there was demolished, and a colony by name Shadman Colony was built. The Shadman Chowk was constructed in the place where Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his comrades Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev were hanged on 23rd March 1931, when Bhagat Singh was only 23 years old. There has been demand for a long time that the chowk be renamed in honour of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

This year the Pakistan Government has taken a favourable decision and the Shadman Chowk has been renamed as Bhagat Singh Chowk. There is also a demand that the birthplace of Bhagat Singh, Chak No. 105, Lyallpur Bange in Faislabad District be converted in to a Bhagat Singh Museum.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh Amar Rahe! Red salute to Shaheed Bhat Singh!

WFTU - Action Day - Oct.3

3rd October every year is being organised as the “International Action Day” as per the call of the World federation of Trade Unions (WFTU). The WFTU was formed on 3rd October 1945 immediately after the end of II World War.

This year, the main slogans of the “International Action Day” are that the working people all over the world should be ensured the necessities and facilities essential for a living like  Food, Water, Health, Education and Housing  are provided. In fact, these are not the demands of the workers alone, but the crores of common people all over the world.

Rallies, Meetings, Demonstrations and other programmes of action on these demands are to be organised today at all centres to highlight the genuine demands of the people and make pressure upon the government and the ruling classes to concede the demands.

BSNLEU has also given call to organise the day in all centres in a very effective manner. The details of the demands etc. have already been posted in this website as also BSNLEU website earlier. The All India Conference of BSNLEU at Ludhiana last week has also passed a resolution calling upon the workers to observe the day successfully.

Long Live WFTU!  Continue struggles to achieve the demands!

Improve BSNL Service – Minister

BSNL - Better service

Shri Kapil Sibal, Communications Minister called upon the BSNL management and the workers to improve the services. He was addressing a meeting held to celebrate the 12th Birth Day Anniversary of BSNL.

We completely agree with the Minister that the services have to be improved a lot. But unfortunately it is the anti-PSU policy of the government which is creating hurdles for BSNL to develop and improve the services.

What the Minister should do is to change the anti- BSNL policy and implement all the assurances  given to the BSNL at the time of corporatisation. This will help not only financial viability but also enable the company to give a better service to the people.

SC - CAG report

In a befitting reply to the severe criticism of the government and ministers on the report of the CAG on the allocation of coal blocks , the Supreme Court said that CAG has got constitutional powers to as per Article 19 of the Constitution, the 1971 Act and the Rules to “examine the efficiency, effectiveness and economy of the decisions. One should not forget that the CAG report is tabled in Parliament through the President. There is a full fledged mechanism to examine a CAG report and then debate in the Parliament. A constitutional office should not be confused with a traditional Munimji”. In short, the CAG can examine the policy also. He is not a simple old accountant.

A suitable reply to the critics of CAG.

Gandhiji - October 2nd.

2nd October is the Birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on in 1869, 143 years back. Called with great respect by the people as Mahatma Gandhi, he was an extra-ordinary leader of the Indians who treated him as their saviour. He gave a new dimension to the Independence struggle and organised crores of people on non-violence principle.

He could not see what happened to the Independent India since he was assassinated by a Hindu fanatic on 30th January 1948 within six months of India’s independence. But he had a taste of the same in the tragedy of partition and the huge migration. He was sad at the turn of events.

Everybody may not agree with all the methods adopted by Gandhiji in the Independence struggle. But he was the great leader who took the entire country with him in the freedom struggle.

Narayana Y.

In continuation of the information posted on the passing away of Co. Y.Narayana, the latest information is given below:

After the postmortem was conducted in Agra Hospital, the body was brough to AIIMS yesterday night. The embalming was done today. Tickets were booked for the Air India Flight AI 126 for Hyderabad but since there was delay in embalming,  the tickets were cancelled and rebooked for the 1930 flight to HD. All the three comrades accompanying the body, Coms. Bimanna Kamble, Dist. Secretary BSNLEU, Sanga Reddy and K.S.Bhandari  left by the same flight. I accompanied them from the hospital to the Airport and made the arrangements for their journey. They have reached Hyderabad and are proceeding to Bidar by Ambulance arranged by BSNL. The time of cremation etc.will be decided in consultation with the family members.

These three comrades mentioned above has been completely engaged with the arrangements for the last three days without any rest and sleep. They could not take any suitcase or bags from the train with them in the critical situation for taking the patient to the hospital on 29th at Agra. Despite complete exhaustion, they were doing every thing for the taking of the dead body to Bidar. This commitment to another comrade is to be maximum appreciated.

As soon as the tragedy was brought to their notice, the CMD, Shri  R.K.Upadhyay and Director (Finance) Shri K.C.G.K.Pillai have given instructions to the CGMs of UP(W) and Karnataka to make all arrangements in this connection.

It is hoped that the body will reach Bidar by tomorrow night. I take this opportunity to thank the CMD, Dir(F), the union leaders who have all helped in dealing with the critical situation.
