Assem Trivedi - right to express

The recent arrests of reporters, journalists and cartoonists against write-ups, cartoon etc. point towards the intolerance of the government against criticism. This is completely negation of the right of people in a democracy to express their opinion against the policies of the government.

The latest case in the arrest of Assem Trivedi cartoonist by the Mumbai Police for a cartoon depicting  the coal gate scam exhibited at the Mumbai Maidan at the time of fast by Anna Hazare.

All democracy loving people should protest against this attack on the freedom of people to express their rightful opinion.

Cancel Coal Block Allocations – Coal Workers Fedn.

Coalgate - CITU

Kolkata, September 10: The All India Coal Workers Federation ( CITU) has issued the following statement:

All India Coal Workers Federation ( CITU) in it’s two day session held on 8-9 September 2012 at Raniganj, West Bengal decided to fight and resist the conspiracy to denationalize coal mining by the corporate – governance nexus through fishing in troubled water in the midst of exposure coal-gate scam which is a creation of their own and the controversy arisen therefrom in order to perpetuate a permanent loot on the national assets as well as on the working class and the people at the behest of private corporates, both domestic and foreign.

The Federation demanded immediate scrapping of all allocations of coal blocks to private hands and return of the same to Coal India Ltd. Concerned legislations enabling allocation of coal blocks to private corporates for so called captive purposes must also be scrapped in view of the stinking scams and perpetual loot of national resources for private and illegitimate gains by the private corporates and their mentors in the governance taking advantage of such ill-designed legislations. Coal India Ltd must be  strengthened further and be made the only nodal agency for coal mining in the country and all the coal resources in the country including future discoveries must be statutorily vested with Coal India Ltd.  Simultaneously all forms of outsourcing of coal production being done by Coal India must be totally banned.

The Federation called upon it’s affiliate unions and also the coal workers unions in general to go in for intensive campaign against the ongoing conspiracy to privatize coal mining in the country and hold massive demonstration before the headquarters of all the subsidiary companies on 1st October 2012. Further course of countrywide actions will be decided by the National Conference of All India Coal Workers Federation to be held on 28-30 November 2012 at Mython, Jharkhand. The Federation will also consult other unions in Coal industry for joint movement against the conspiracy of denationalization privatization.

Jibon Roy, National Secretary, CITU and General Secretary of All India Coal Workers Federation stated that conspiracy to denationalize and privatize coal resources of the country which were rescued from private hands and vested in State through Coal Mines Nationalisation Act 1973, has been attempted number of times earlier also by bringing Coal Mines Nationalisation (Amendment) Bill in Parliament. But on all the  occasions such attempts were foiled by the united and militant struggle by all the coal workers and by all the coal unions including serving notice for week-long strike action, which compelled the concerned Govt at the centre to shelve said Bill. Even the legislation providing for captive-mine allocation to power and cement industry was opposed by the coal trade unions and also by the Left parties in Parliament. And now such provision of allotting captive mines to private hands has landed the country to huge scam and illegitimate gains for private corporates, both domestic and foreign and a huge loss to country’s exchequer and also to Coal India. crorepati ministers - scams

According to a report in the Economic Times today, based on the posting in the PMO website, India is having a cabinet of crorepatis. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is also in the list of crorepatis. See below:

1. Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime minister    Rs.  10.37 crore

2. Praful Patel, Heavy Industries Minister  Rs.  52.00 crore

3. Sharad Pawar, Agriculture Minister         Rs.  22.0  crore

4. Kapil Sibal, Communications, HR            Rs.  45.33 crore

5. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Home Minister     Rs.  15       crore

6. P.Chidambaram, Finance Minister          Rs.   17      crore

7. Ajit Singh, Civil Aviation Minister            Rs.   13     crore

8. M.K.Alagiri, Chemicals Fertiliser Min.    Rs.     9.5  crore

9. Pawan Kumar Bansal Parliamentary Aff.Rs.     6.65 crore

10.Ghulam Nabi Azad, Health Minister       Rs.     3.42 crore

11.Salman Khurshid Law Minister                Rs.     3.5 crore

12.Kumari Selja,  Housing Minister              Rs.    12.25 crore

13.Kamal Nath, Urban Dev. Minister          Rs.    13.0   crore

14.S.M.Krishna, Extl. Affairs Minister          Rs.      1.89 crore

15.Subodh Kant sahay, Tourism minister    Rs.    70.74 crore

If all these important ministers are crorepatis and many others also, it can aptly be called as crorepati cabinet. As such, it is not surprising that they maximum look after the interests of crorepatis and corporates. In fact, more subsidies have been given by this cabinet to a few thousand/hundred corporates that to the crores of common people of the country. Not only scams in 2G and Coal blocks, but also in every sector since the scams benefit the corporates and the crorepatis.

Telecom - ISD

TRAI has recommended to the DOT that in future the ISD facilities should be barred from the pre-paid mobile connections. Citing the misuse of the facility by telemarketers etc. the users of the pre-paid mobile connections are put to unnecessary difficulty, this new condition has been done.

Before providing the pre-paid connections, the subscriber should be asked whether he want ISD facility and only after he agreed for the same, the ISD facility will be provided.

For the existing pre-paid connections, the ISD will be disconnected within 60 days. If the subscriber consent for ISD within sixty days, it will be continued.

Return India’s historical memorabilia to India!

Tippu Sultan - Memorabilia

There are a large number of memorabilia belonging to India is in the British Museum and other museums in Britain. There are thousands of historically valuable artefacts in castles and royal houses also. These are not purchased by them from India, but have been taken forcibly or stolen from India, when it was under the British imperialist rule. It was loot and more loot.

For example take the memorabilia connected with Tippu Sultan. His armour, sword, dresses and many other items are exhibited in the British Museum just like the trophies of a victor from the vanquished. The British rulers demolished the Srirangapatam Fort and other buildings connected with Tippu and took whatever can be looted and shipped to Britain.

Now the India is free for the last more than sixty years what justification Britain has got to deny these memorabilia to India? Just like Italy has demanded for the return of Mona Lisa painting from Louvre Museum in France to Florence Museum in Italy, India has to demand Britain for return of our historical articles, artefacts and memorabilia. There should not be any delay in the matter.

coalgate - scam

The reports in the press had already indicated Ministers who had recommended coal block allocation to their kith and kin or close aides. Now an MP is also involved. Congress MP, Navin Jindal is  reported to have gained thousands of crores due to allotment without usual conditions on fixing of price etc. How more skeletons from the UPA Government cup board?

AIR INDIA GETS ‘DREAM LINER’ IN ITS FLEET

PSU - Air India -Dreamliner

After a  long wait of four years, the Air-India has got the first B-787 Dreamliner plane for its service. The plane has been handed over to the Air India by the manufactures a few days back. It has been brought to India and may be put in service within a short time, first in the domestic sector. The Air India in a full-page advertisement in many dailies today  has focussed on the major attractions of the Dreamliner as larger dimmable windows, expansive cabin, dynamic LED lighting, entertainment system,  use of lap-tops,MP3 players, USBs etc.  More planes are to be delivered during the next few months.

Let this new purchase be a step further for improvement for the crisis ridden Air India. Anyhow for the last few months, it is reported that the Air India flights were having maximum seats filled to its capacity. I wish that Air India, the government-owned company is restored to its old glory.
