Massive Lunch Hour Demonstrations demanding ITS Repatriation

BSNL - ITS repatriation

The delay in the ITS repatriation and the flip-flop by the ITS dominated BSNL management has resulted in the massively attended Lunch Hour Demonstration in all centres on the call of the Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations.

The best way for the government and BSNL management is to implement its own earlier orders as also the orders of the Delhi High Court  and repatriate all the ITS who do not want BSNL and has opted for DOT. Necessary urgent recruitment also is to be made to ensure that the topmost positions are managed by well equipped persons both in high technologies and business management.

Mamata leaves UPA government- Withdraw anti-people measures

UPA Govt.- Mamata

Trinamul supremo Ms. Mamata Banerjee has announced her withdrawal of support to the UPA government at the centre and has announced that the Trinamool Ministers will resign on Friday. The decision is in protest against the 51% FDI in multi-brand retail, increase in diesel price, disinvestment of PSUs and also in the restriction on supply of LPG  to six cylinders in a year to a family.

The withdrawal of support has made the UPA a minority in the Parliament. But the Prime Minister has again stated that there will be no withdrawal of the above measures. The continuation of the government depends upon the parties which support it from outside.

The Congress party may ensure the UPA regime through any means like they have done last time when the Left withdrew its support on the nuclear deal by utilising money power and freebies to certain parties and individuals.

But the fact remains that most of the parties including in the UPA are opposing these anti-people measures. Most of them have either given call for protest action on 20th September or have decided to participate in the call for strike given by the non-Congress, non-BJP parties. BJP is also participating. According to the latest information, the strike and bandh will participated and supported by the majority of the people.

The UPA government should ponder and decided to roll back the anti-people measures. If not, it will have to face serious consequences. Is US pressure and support of MNCs and India Inc more priority for the government more than the interest of the nation and the people?

School in toilet – The reality even after 50 years of Independence.

schools - education

In today’s Times of India, Bangalore Edition, a news item is published which portrays the sad plight of the education system in the country. An elementary school in Hanumantnagar, Hubli, the home town of the Karnataka Chief Minister Jagdish, is functioning in a toilet. There is no drinking water facility, no play-ground and no other facilities required for a school. A photo of the toilet building is also published.

This is not an isolated case. In many states, there are schools without even class rooms, only a small room for the office. Children study in the open air, below the trees. Schools are not there for many miles in the tribal areas. Illiteracy in the country is still very high even compared to many African countries.

On the one side the government is spending millions by granting huge subsidies to the corporates and  big business for maximising their profit. But on the other side, it does not feel the necessity even to provide the basic necessities to the downtrodden.

This is the condition in our country even after 65 years of Independence. It is not only political Independence that India wants, it should be financial and social Independence also so that the crores of underprivileged in the country feel that freedom has something for them also.

Ludhiana gears up for AIC of BSNLEU

AIC BSNLEU - Punjab

Ludhiana, the industrial city of Punjab, is fully prepared for the VI All India Conference of BSNL Employees Union to be held up there from 25th to 28th September 2012. Accommodation and other facilities for the delegates and observes numbering about 2000 are already in place. Due to difficulty in getting Conference Hall etc., all these were booked many months back.

Punjab, the Land of Five Rivers, has always been the defender of the nation from the attacks from outside and had borne the brunt. Even now most of the Punjabi families have their kith and kin in the army.  It was one of the main centres of the freedom movement. Revolutionaries like Comrades Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and others sacrificed their lives on the altar of freedom at their early ages. The glorious role of the Gaddar movement is part of the freedom struggle. The memorials to the Babas. who met their end in the solitary cells of the CellularJail in Port-Blair ( Andaman and Nicobar Islands) once again remind you of the glorious past of  Punjab. Punjab played a dominant role in the green revolution, in agriculture.  The Golden Temple of Amritsar, Jallianwala Bag, ,where thousands met martyrdom for the freedom, Wagha Border  the frontier with Pakistan – all are places to be seen and experienced.

Under the efficient leadership of Coms. R.L.Moudgil, President and Balbir Singh, Circle Secretary and leaders of the Reception Committee, preparations are almost at the finishing stage. In advance I congratulate all of these comrades for their sincere and dedicated work.

Only a few days are left for the AIC, in which organisational matters and issues of workers and of national importance will be discussed and inspiring decisions taken.  Let us wait impatiently for the coming days.

No roll back of reforms, more reforms – Chidambaram

Reforms - protest action

It is surprising! When the entire country, including those supporting UPA government, is opposing the anti-people decisions of the government on 51% FDI in multi-brand retail, hike in diesel prices, disinvestment of PSUs etc., the Finance Minister Chidambaram has not only justified the decisions, but has threatened of more reforms.

The UPA government is more interested in pleasing the US, MNCs, big business and media than attending to the concerns of the common people.

Let the people give a befitting reply to the audacity of the government.

Protest action - Sept.20

BSNLEU has given call to organise protest demonstration on 20th September against the disinvestment of PSUs, increasing diesel price, limiting LPG to 6 cylinders in a year to a family, 51% FDI in multi-brand retail etc. The UPA government in the name of reform are attacking the common people and the toiling masses. Make the programme a complete success.

Walmart ready to enter India

Walmart - FDI in retail

Walmart Stores Inc, the largest retail MNC, is preparing to enter India in a large way. It has been pressurising Indian government to open up the multi-brand retail sector. Now that the government has decided to allow 51% FDI in the above sector, Walmart and other multinational retail chains are going to enter the country to maximise their profit.

It will be the people and the retail traders who are going to lose and suffer. The anti-people policy of the government has to be opposed and defeated.

FDI in retail, aviation – Applause from US, India Inc

FDI - US - India Inc

As expected, the US has applauded the government of India for the increased FDI in aviation, 51% FDI in multi-brand retail trade etc. It congratulated India for the ‘Big Bang Reforms”. Indian big business has also heartily welcomed the decisions including the rise in price of diesel.

The government will be happy. It wants the applaud of the imperialists, the MNCs and the big business. It is not worried about the misery of the people. Is it aware of the strong protests by the people all over the country? Is it aware of the protests from not only the opposition parties, but its allies also?

A roll back of the prices can not be expected from this government. The only way is to protest strongly and continue sustained agitation against the anti-worker policies. The government should be taught a hard lesson.

Protest Action - 20th Sept. - opp.parties

The leaders of the Samajwadi Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Telugu Desam Party, Biju Janata Dal, Janata Dal (S), All India Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party have issued the following statement:
Nationwide Protest Day on September 20
The UPA government has stuck cruel blows on the people one after another.
It has raised the price of diesel by Rs. 5 per litre stoking price rise and burdening the farmers. It has limited the subsidised gas cylinder per family to six and the rest will have to be bought at the market price which is more than double. It has opened the multi-brand retail trade to foreign supermarket chains endangering the livelihood of more than four crore people occupied in retail trade and the mass of consumers. It is selling off shares of profitable PSUs and navaratna companies like NALCO and Oil India.
We appeal to the people to rise in protest against these anti-people measures.
We appeal to the farmers, workers, women and youth to join the protest.
We appeal to the transporters, shopkeepers and traders organisations to join the struggle.
We appeal to all sections of the people, all patriotic-minded citizens to join the movement.
Let us all unite to stop these measures which will further burden the people and ruin their livelihood.
Let there be a powerful protest on September 20 through hartals, pickettings, demonstrations and court arrest programmes.
