NTP – 2012 ,Government surrenders to private companies

02 Saturday Jun 2012

A perusal of the available information clearly shows that the government has completely surrendered to the demands of the private telecom companies while finalising the NTP-2012. Whether it is spectrum sharing or allotting spectrum or financing, the policy is on the side of the private telcos. No benefit is shown to the PSU telecoms, BSNL and MTNL. A serious analysis has to be done after the full text of the policy is available.

The strike on 13th June will be complete

01 Friday Jun 2012

The Indeffinite Strike called by the Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations is going to be the biggest strike in the BSNL so far. The notice for the strike has been issued by as much as 16 unions so far, viz. by BSNLEU, NFTE, SNEA, AIBSNLEA, TEPU, BSNLWRU, BTU BSNL, BSNL ATM, NFTBE, BSNLMS, BTEU BSNL, AIGETOA, BSNLOA, AIBCTES, BSNL NTSU and SEWA BSNL. FNTO has given separate Notice. We are excepting the other few unions also to issue strike notice and participate in the dharna on 6th June and the Indefinite Strike from 13th June.

The denial of the justified demands of the workers by the BSNL Management in the discussions held on 1st June has to be replied with the strong actions by the workers. The discrimination to the absorbed employees can not be tolerated.

Come one and all to participate in the struggle for justice and fairplay.

CITU demands enquiry on ‘Coalgate’ and role of PMO/PM

CITU General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, Tapan Sen, today termed as a ‘drama’ the Central Vigilance Commission referring a complaint to CBI on alleged irregularities in use of coal blocks by some private firms.    “Will the CBI inquire on the misdeeds of Prime Minister’s Office or dare to question Prime Minister, on the issue,” Sen asked at a press conference here.     He said since the alleged irregularities in allocation of coal blocks were made, when the Coal Ministry was with the Prime Minister between 2004-2009, there should be a thorough probe in the entire issue, he said.     Sen, here to participate in the 4-day CITU National General Council meeting, beginning tomorrow, said Centre was deceiving the people by claiming that International crude prices played a major role in deciding the prices of petrol.     Sen, a member of the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, claimed it would cost only Rs.38 to Rs.40 for refining and supplying a litre petrol to the public, as against the present Rs.78 to Rs.80.    Government was earning 48 per cent tax on every one rupee of petrol sold and the claim of international fluctuation was a ‘fraud’ played on the gullible public, he alleged.   At the General Council meeting, Sen and CITU President, A K Padmanabhan said it would draw up a plan with regard to future of all the working class and also build up resistance, with other trade unions, against the UPA government whose policy was taking the country to ‘bankruptcy, disaster,’ leading to an economic situation like that of European Union.

The General Council of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) will start tomorrow at Coimbatore and will continue for the next four days. The GC is very important since it will be discussing the present situation when the government is trying to take away the labor rights and impose restrictions one after another. In addition, it will discuss about the methods to strengthen the united actions by all the Central trade Unions, reviewing the success and impact of the 28th February strike organised as per the call of the 11 Central Trade Unions. It will also discuss the ways and means to strengthen CITU and have more spread all over the country.

Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations meeting with CMD

01 Friday Jun 2012

As reported yesterday, the meeting between CMD BSNL and the Unions/Associations was held today at 1100 hours. CMD, Director (EB), Director (Finance), PGM (SR) and other top officers were present. The Forum leaders demanded that the long pending issues of the employees like 78.2% IDA Merger, restoration of the curtailed benefits, increase in the various allowances etc. be settled urgently. The plea of lack of funds is only to deny the rights of the workers, while the management has issued orders for increased allowances for the non-absorbee ITS officers. They told that there can not be such discrimination against the employees. The CMD did not counter the points of the unions but requested to withdraw the agitations including the strike and the demands will be considered when the financial position improves. The staff side forthrightly rejected the above.

The Unions met immediately after the meeting and called upon the workers at various level to speed up the preparations for the strike. They also called upon the workers to make the 6th Dharna programme a massive show of strength. All general Secretaries were asked to contact their Circle Secretaries to ensure organising the programmes jointly and make them a grand success.
