Anniversary of Soviet Victory over Fascism 1945 – Fidel Castro

15 Tuesday May 2012

I am reproducing a portion from an article written by Fidel Castro, the former President of Cuba on the victory of the Soviet Union against the Nazi army which invaded USSR and had to retreat to Berlin where they had to surrender to the Red Army in May 1945.

” No political event can be judged outside of the era and the circumstances in which it took place. No one even knows one percent of the fabulous history of Man; but thanks to history, we know about occurrences that go beyond the limits of the imaginable. The privilege of having known persons, even the locations where some of the events related to the historic battle took place, augmented the interest with which I awaited the anniversary this year.  The colossal deed was fruit of the heroism of a group of people that the revolution and socialism had united and intertwined to put an end to the brutal exploitation that the world had been putting up with throughout the millennia.  The Russians were always proud of having headed that revolution and of the sacrifices they were capable of in bringing it to fruition. This very important anniversary of the victory could not be understood under the colours of a flag or a name other than the one that presided over the heroism of the combatants of the Great Patriotic War.  Without a doubt, something untouchable and unforgettable remained: the anthem whose unforgettable notes accompanied millions of men and women to challenge death and to crush the invaders who wished to impose a thousand years of Nazism and holocaust on all humanity. With those ideas in mind, I enjoyed the hours I dedicated to the most organized and martial procession I could ever imagine, whose protagonists were men formed in the Russian military universities. The Yankees and the blood-thirsty NATO armies could not imagine that the crimes committed in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, the attacks on Pakistan and Syria, the threats against Iran and other Middle Eastern countries, the military bases in Latin America, Africa and Asia could take place with absolute impunity, without the world becoming aware of the unusual and crazy threat.  How soon do empires forget the lessons of history! The military technology exhibited in Moscow on May 9th demonstrated the impressive capacity of the Russian Federation to provide a proper and varied response to the conventional and nuclear resources of imperialism.  It was just the ceremony we were waiting for on the glorious anniversary of the Soviet victory over fascism. ”

A case of dedicated work – My congratulations!

15 Tuesday May 2012

I received a letter from an active worker of BSNLEU and an office bearer of the SSA, Pathanamthitta (Kerala), Comrade K.Rajan, about the efforts made by the workers to improve the services and to increase the connections of BSNL. Even after duty hours many comrades are doing service. They are providing new connections, getting transfer of connections through MNP etc. in an effective way. In the one year from June 2011 to May 2012, Com. Rajan has obtained 10274 points as per the SSA management and was appreciated and congratulated. My Hearty Congratulations and appreciation to Com. Rajan.

There are many such comrades all over India who are putting their best for the improvement of the services and expansion. If  one and all try their best like this, there is no doubt that the revival of BSNL can be expedited and it can once again become a profitable company. Let us all try for the same.

What is happening in Tata Communications Ltd.(former VSNL)?(contd.))

14 Monday May 2012

Today I met two employees who were forcibly retrenched from the Tata Communications Ltd.(former VSNL). The situation of the absorbed workers from DOT/VSNL is pitiable. They are being treated in an inhuman way by the Tata Management.

One of the employee is an Asst. General Manager. A few days back, while he was on field duty, he was called by his superior to immediately come to the office. He was called to the office of the superior, There were more than one senior officers. He was point blankly told to submit resignation from job forthwith, failing which he will be retrenched. He is having 10 more years of service and was worried about his future. He was threatened with immediate retrenchment without any benefit if he do not resign. He was compelled to resign and when he tried to phone to consult, the phone was snatched away. At last out of fear, he gave a resignation letter. The next moment he was given a letter accepting his resignation. This was typed and kept ready earlier. Another officer was also made to submit compulsory resignation in the same way.

Tata companies are stated to be one of the companies keeping good relations with the workers. If this is the situation in Tata Company, what will be happening in other private companies? All labour rules are violated and the workers are being treated as slaves. The central trade unions specially and all unions in the country have to ensure that such inhuman and anti-worker acts are resisted and defeated. Today it is in TCL, tomorrow it may be in BSNL. Can we tolerate such inhuman acts? No. No. We haveto put an end to such attacks.

Celebrations on 60 years of Parliament of India

14 Monday May 2012

13th May 2012 was celebrated by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha holding separate sessions and later a joint session. The President, Vice-President, Speaker, Prime minister as also the leaders of the various parties addressed the sessions. The speakers remembered the earlier important developments and also suggested how the conduct of the parliament can be improved, including a minimum sittings in a year. It was very interesting and informative to hear the speeches. If all the political parties and the leaders stick to the various good suggestions, there is no doubt that the Indian Democracy will march ahead to new heights.

But by the time the separate sessions were to end, there were hardly ten to twenty members present. Of course it continuous and MPs might have gone for lunch. But they should have ensured that at least a sizable number are present.

Anomaly Committe on 16th May

13 Sunday May 2012

Posted by VAN NAMBOODIRI in BSNL - Better Service to the Nation

The next sitting of the Anomaly Committee will be held on 16th May. In the last meeting the staff side has clearly told that  the seniors in the higher grade who are getting less than their juniors in the lower grade  should be  paid the same as their juniors. Nothing less can be accepted. Let us hope the administration will realise the seriousness of the issue and agree without compelling the staff side to go on agitation.

Air India crisis – Why the Government refuses to talk?

13 Sunday May 2012

Posted by VAN NAMBOODIRI in PSU

The pilots of the Air India is on agitation for the last 6 days and thousands of travellers have been put  to difficulty due to the cancellation of the flights. The former Air India Pilots are complaining that they are being completely ignored and denied in the training of the new ‘Dream Liner’ planes compared to the former Indian Airlines pilots. We do not know the details of their demands etc. The government has declared a tough stand there will no talk with the pilots union, unless the agitation is called off. The union has been derecognised, 71 pilots have been sacked and action is being taken to cancel the licences of the agitating pilots.

Is it the method to be adopted when the workers are on struggle. Why can’t the minister agree to talk with the union and sort out the issue. Settlement is the next stage, but why can’t you talk and try for a solution? The government may also remember that all the employees including the pilots are working without receiving the salary for months.

Such hard and stubborn stand taken by the government of India in the 1960 strike by the central government employees  terming it as Civil Rebellion and the victimisation of lakhs of employees by arresting, jailing, dismissing, terminating, suspending and what not, has not helped the government. In the face of public opinion and further struggles, the victimisation had to be stopped and every employee to be reinstated. In a democracy it is the responsibility of the government to discuss and settle the grievances of the workers to the extent possible. The best way to sort out the issues is an immediate dialogue by the Minister and Air India Management  with the agitating pilots. I hope the government will do it to end the unpleasant situation.
