The results of the assembly elections to the five states have been announced. Except in Manipur, where it won handsomely for the third term and in Uttarakhand where it has got one seat more than the BJP, in all the other three states it failed utterly. Goa, where it was the ruling party is lost to BJP. In Punjab, a historical victory has been secured by the Akali Dal, destroying the coming back hope of Congress.
But the worst defeat is in U.P. Despite the entire top team of the Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, campaigned in each and every corner of U.P, it utterly failed to create any impact. It got only 27/28 seats and its ally a mere 9 seats, the total coming to less than 40 in a state with 403 seats. To add to the woes, it lost in the family constituencies of Amethi and Rae Bareily.
Mulayam Singh, Samajwadi Party, has won with a huge majority in UP. No exit poll saw what was coming. Everybody thought that it will be difficult to cross the 200 line. But it has got more than 220 seats.
All these results will have repercussions in the political situation in the country as also the 2014 General elections. The main point in the elections is that the people are wooing the regional parties more and more. Further this is also a reaction on the part of the people against corruption and anti-people ploicies of the central government.
Dear Sir,
This is not the verdict against Congress only…its against all those non-performing parties or groups who are not doing anything for masses. This can happen to any Association too. Gradually awareness is increasing among people at large and its a good sign of democracy. We should always vote for PERFORMANCE rather than going for bias. i hope everyone understands this and observe the hidden agenda of every party/group before voting. We can grow only when we support the RIGHT.
