The representatives of  BSNLEU and BSNL Casual Mazdoor Union met  the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour on  2nd January’2012 in its meeting at Kolkata to present the issues of the Casual and Contract workers.  Coms. Animesh Mitra, Circle Secretary, BSNLEU W.B.,  ,Tapas Ghosh, Circle Secretary as well as Secretary General of  BSNLCCWF and other leaders viz. Com Swapan Chanda, BSNLEU, Com. Kalyan Raha, BSNLCMU, Com. Akhilesh Banerjee, BSNLCMU and Com. Tarak Kundu, BSNLCMU were  present in the meeting. One memorandum was placed to the members of the  parliamentary Standing Committee. Com. Animesh Mitra narrated the burning problems of Casual and Contract labourers before the Members of the Standing Committee, Officers of the Regional labour department, Commissioner of the Regional  EPF department and the officers of BSNL CO who were present in the meeting. Com. Mitra informed that except West Bengal the Casual laborers were regularised throughout India during  the formation of BSNL i.e. 01-10-2000. He expressed his resentment that the EPF contribution was deducted from the poor labourers but the contractors did not pay to the EPF department, therefore he demanded that the principal employer i.e. BSNL Management should deposit the amount of EPF to the respective EPF authority. Similarly the amount of ESI  which were deducted from the wages of Casual/Contract workers, but the workers are not getting the benefits. He also intimated to the Members that the recognise union demanded to the CGMT W.B. Circle and BSNL CO regarding filling up of the Gr-D vacancy by the listed Casual labourers, TSM status, Wages at par IDA pattern in BSNL etc. but the BSNL administration keep mum in this regard.

Already BSNLCCWF represented to the Chief Labour Commissioner and a letter was issued to the Prime Minister on these issues.
