National Broadband Network, involving laying of 11 lakh Km. of optical fibre connecting 2.5 lakhs panchayats in the country will now be entrusted with BSNL, MTNL, Rail, Gail, Power grid etc.

The proposal of the DOT to entrust this project of Rs.20,000 crore to BSNL was modified on Finance Ministry’s intervention against involving only BSNL.
