The proposal for the Kundankulam Nuclear Project is stoutly opposed by almost the entire population near that area in T.Nadu. The recent nuclear catastrophe in Fukushima, Japan and the resultant deaths and radiation to large number of people has naturally raised doubts and fears in the minds of the people. It is near fishing waters and naturally any mistake may result in contamination of fish catching also which in turn will result in serious health problems.
The Tamilnadu Assembly has already passed resolution asking the Central Government not to proceed with the project till all the concerns are sorted out. The environmentalists and other social activists are also demanding the same. The fishing community has also strongly opposed.
But the Central Government is proceeding with its plan. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh stated that the project would go forward. The Government is not worried about the health concerns or danger involved, but is interested in continuing the project, whatever happens. It is completely insensitive to the issues raised by the people.
In the days to come, the protests are going to be intensified. The government should stop the project till all the concerns are addressed to.

True. It is the responsibility of the government to answer the concerns raised by the people and also is responsible to re-look into the plan and ensure the safety of the plant. The incident in Japan is supposed to be a lesson to all the countries going ahead with these plants. We must learn from the history and ensure we do not committ such mistakes which might pose threat to the human kind.
Though, I am not against the advanced technology, I feel, every one of us has a right to know if such thing around us is safe or not? The government should take the responsibility to ensure the safety of people around the plant and also ensure that it does not pose threat to any living being around it. Until and unless the people around the proposed plant are convinced that the plant is safe, I feel, the project to be suspended.
kunndankulam- nuclear project -is not required as it is more dangerous than any thing else. we need power for local development but it should be of environ friendly like solar / wind power – or even incinerator can be used to generate required power. and the plant should be “By the people, for the people and of the people” PM is as usaual bent upon protecting the investor and least cares for the common man especially south. This plant was rejected elsewhaere. People of Kundankulam need more support
