The Joint Action Committee of BSNL Associations / Unions of Executives and Non-Executives in its meeting today, 4th October 2011 decided to defer the 10th October strike to the first fortnight of November in order to achieve wider unity for the struggle. JAC will approach NFTE and FNTO to have a united struggle on the issues already given notice of. It was felt that maximum unity is required for the struggle.
(The details of the JAC meeting will be put in the websites of the Unions/Associations).
This is a good decision. At this time of crisis it is necessary that the entire workforce is united to defend and protect the interests of the workers and the company. We will make all out efforts for the same so that we shall win. My request to all workers and leaders is that it is the need of the hour to join together and fight for our survival.

The much needed action is brewing! That is what majority of the workforce thinking at present!! A strong front , really united, to see our organisation stand United forever!!! This opinion was projected to many of the local leaders of all the unions by me many times. But, they just turned their heads to other side to settle their local issues and scores with each others. Hope this time all will unite under one banner, TO SAVE BSNL, Nice initiative which will definitely bear fruit!!!
(The great old malayalam saying is worth mentioning now – “Kandaal Ariyathavan Kondaal Ariyum”—- Feeling, not Seeing, is believing)
Exactly. Every body has to strive for united action in the face of attack against the working class. That is what JAC is trying to do. Struggle for Unity and Unity for Struggle.
Dear comarade namboodri, is the time not right to file case against the govt and management for its non commitment regarding Viability and Job security at the time of corporisation of BSNL. The employees who have absorbed in BSNL feel cheated by the Unions at that time. ITS officers who have not yet joined BSNL have already given their option for DOT. The employees who have been abosorbed in BSNL can move to DOT/any other central govt department. Have legal options being considered. We the employees are largely dependent on you sir, as many comrades know it is you who will stand for the employees even in the darkest hour. Comrade consider all viable solutions for the employees. Comrade you are the one (Senior & Honest) who can save the employees from the clutches of Management and Govt.
Dear Comrade please unit together and fight for the legitimate rights of the employees of BSNL
If the VRS is purely Voluntary, unions need not bother. Some of the employees are ready to go on VRS because of so many reasons. At this stage no union can stop the VRS. As the management is stubborn on VRS it is better to fight for not implementing CRS. If the management come forward with the orders on VRS, no body can stop the staff members who are willing to go on VRS. So, it is requested to bargain for better opportunities both for the optees/non optees.

private operators are highly modern technology inducted telecom companies. they have the choice of procuring skilled man power to suit their requirements. b s n l with average age of 50 years & with a back ground work culture of monopolistic govt department has to compete with them. sure, we in the bsnl are second to none.
At the same time let us introspect our strengths & weaknesses. yesterday’s strength may be outdated today and today’s one tomorrow. this is not our creation but the result of changing times.
best course is to bargain for both who are intending to opt for VRS & who are remaining, while the sun shines. Or else, we may loose even this bargaining power because even if sun (management) wills, thick clouds may not permit sun’s shining to reach.
The workers can not be pessimistic. Through out the centuries workers have fought and achieved many things which were thought to be unachievable. Twice BSNL management tried to introduce VRS but failed due to opposition from the workers. We may win or lose in opposing the VRS. But we have to see that VRS, which is neither beneficial to the company nor to the workers, has to be defeated. That is the experience that we had seen wherever VRS has been introduced. Through VRS, management is not increasing the revenue which is the necessity for the company to grow. It wants to reduce the staff and expenditure. Next will be to reduce the work as there will not be workers. When the wok is reduced again workers will be reduced. And the revenue of the company will go down. Then the Government will show justification for privatisation. Once BSNL is privatised the private companies will increase the tariffs. Instead of one paise for one second it will be ten rupees for one second call. they will make a cartel and there will be nobody to stop that. Unless we stop it now, it will be too late. This is the experience of many countries. It is not only for the worker that we oppose VRS but for the future of the company and for the people.
